Matthew 1:18-25 KJV
(18)  Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his
mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came
together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
(19)  Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing
to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away
privily.
(20)  But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of
the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son
of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which
is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
(21)  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name
JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
(22)  Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
(23)  Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a
son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being
interpreted is, God with us.
(24)  Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the
Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
(25)  And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son:
and he called his name JESUS.

How important was the man God chose as the father of Jesus.
Just like the mother was chosen so was a special unique man
picked to be the father of Jesus. A man of tradition, as well as
one of purity who obeyed the will of God in his life. Joseph a
devout Jew found his fiancée pregnant and had not had any
sexual relation with her. What this man must have been going
through emotionally to know this pure woman was now tarnished
in his eyes. Thinking perhaps she was a woman that would not be
faithful in the future. Yet by the information given one knows
Joseph had respect for Mary for he decided to do the best he
could for her. He decided to put her away privately. To be
engaged in the day of Mary and Joseph was legally to be bound
by marriage agreement but not to be consummated by the sexual
relations at that time. Mary was to be said to be with child of the
Holy Ghost, yet those words were not enough to make Joseph
consider putting her away privately. Joseph other alternative was
to have her stone or punished for her unfaithfulness. The matter
was serious.

God had given Mary a spouse that was obedient to God. An
angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream. An angel told
Joseph not to fear to take Mary as a wife for this child was
conceived by the Holy Ghost. Joseph when awaken obeyed the
Lord and all that was spoken. God gave Mary a man that was
obedient to the will of God. A man who perhaps might even been
looked down upon by friends of family that did not believe that
Mary conception was of the Holy Ghost.

Today let us thank God for godly men that obey God, for they
make good husband and father’s. Help us to understand God
choosing of a good earth man to take care of His son was
equally as important as picking of the right mother for his son.
God choose a righteous man, willing to obey upon faith in
impossible situation by human standards. Not all men would have
been willing to obey God or to honor their spouse to be. Not all
men are good. God choice is best.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the gift of godly men that
become husbands and fathers. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
