4 Days of God's Gift Giving
by turtle30c
Matthew 2:9-11 KJV (9) When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. (10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. (11) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
God’s instructions are a gift. He makes no mistakes and they are clear and precise to detail. Sometimes we wonder why that detail is so precise, but they are to make it clear of God’s divine authority. God said the babe would be born in Bethlehem. God told the people of eastern origin that the star would arise out of the tribe of Judah and smite Moabites.( Numbers 24:17). When the star appeared it was a warning to the Moabites they needed to see the one that would smite them and crush the enemy. When we think of Jesus we think of someone gentle and kind. But Jesus came to destroy the enemy to bring those willing to hear protection through His death and resurrection. Wise men of the east followed the star to see this new babe, but the trap was they were not in obedience to God for they stopped at Jerusalem, not the city of David which was Bethlehem. The star reappeared and they continued to follow the star. The light of Christ was out over the palace think about it. As they continued they found the house where the young child was. A house, not a manger. Two things had happened, either it been some time since the birth like perhaps a year or Mary had recently moved in a house and was not traveling at the moment anywhere because of the young child. Either way it matters not. It does not change the fact the wise men found Mary when they followed the star that first appeared in the east. Something else to note this star was moving in the sky, enough anyway to cause these wise men to follow to see where it went.
To talk about God’s instruction they are always godly. Ungodly instruction come from the devil. Devil instruction are not of God. God’s instruction are clear to obey Him. His instructions are not grievous. I think wise men willing to follow the sign God gave them may of allowed God to warn them in a dream. See if they had stop following the leading of the star and investigate and inquire on their own the where about of Jesus would of not be trusting in God‘s sign He had provided. God had given Israel similar instructions when they walked through the desert for forty years. They followed the cloud by day and the fire by night. Yet Israel had to do one more thing come into submission and belief in God in order to enter the promise land. The cloud and the fire was not enough to convince Israel that what God said was true. I doubt if that star appearing really changed faith of wise men much. Yet obeying God because of warning in a dream would prove to be their test of faith. We do not have that journey. It was not recorded in the history of the Bible. Yet the point is this, Joseph and Mary trip to Egypt would be and their obedience was necessary to keeping Jesus safe.
I doubt it was any secret who these wise men were after all they had camels. One who believes Isaiah prophesy knows that by this verse in Isaiah 60:6 KJV “The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.” One also knows this verse applies because of the gifts given to Baby Jesus. If nothing else can prove the faith of these wise men, is the lack of knowledge of the birth place, no I think not. For they came to worship this king. Despite their background, their history, their lack of faith, they came believing the sign given them. Following until it rested over the palace and disappeared only to reappear. This inquiry would cause the warning to come. And this is something to think about tomorrow lesson. Yet it is obedience and knowledge of God’s word that keeps us safe.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to trust in your word and obey your instructions. Thank you for signs and instructions to follow you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
