6 Days of God's Gift Giving
Daily Devotion: by turtle30c
Numbers 24:15-24 KJV (15) And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: (16) He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: (17) I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth. (18) And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly. (19) Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city. (20) And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever. (21) And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock. (22) Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive. (23) And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this! (24) And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
Matthew 2:1-2 KJV (1) Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
The land to east of Judah was looking for a star. Where the thought of the wise men coming out of the Orient, I am not sure I know. There was a place east of Judah, it is said to be the area in which Melchizedek came from in Arabia. This was a priest Abraham paid homage too. It was not necessarily a godly group of priest, for Balaam was not of God, but still prophesied the things of God according to the will of God. These wise men came from the east for that is where the star appeared. These people were astrologers and idolaters that believed in God. Their coming would bring a curse on Israel the weeping of Rachel for her children. Crying for those killed because of the birth of a new king.
In other words the witch doctors showed at the house where Mary and Joseph lived at the time period of Jesus being about probably age one. This is usually not taught with the Christmas story. I can perhaps understand it. No one wants to know astrologers came to see the Christ Child. We want to think it was a holy visitation and not always of ill repute. However who gave the sign to these people, God did and that made them worthy to come see this new king the Savior of the World, to all that would believe despite their background. There were some group in South America that talked about the star of the wise men. I can not remember now the name. Yet these people believed in the coming of Jesus and the fact He had come.
Who are we to call ill repute if they come to seek Jesus. Let God deal with them not us. Let God deal with there hearts. Yet if violation of our laws that govern our land let us speak out against their folly. Let us not stand for disobedience to our laws. God is sovereign. This spiritual and not physical. Jesus is the lamb of God. He came to destroy the devil. Not to destroy those seeking Him for worship.
Dear Heavenly Father has we examine the appearance of the star to a people that believed in Christ coming, let us worship Jesus with our hearts and soul. Thank you Jesus for being the gift to all. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
