7 Days of God's Gift Giving
by turtle
Luke 2:8-19 KJV (8) And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. (9) And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. (10) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. (11) For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (12) And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. (13) And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, (14) Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (15) And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. (16) And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. (17) And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. (18) And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. (19) But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Shepherds in the field, minding their own business, perhaps sitting around a late night camp fire, telling stories and thinking on the last sheep they had defended from a wolf to feed their own belly. Maybe on the new lambs just born the day before, or perhaps telling stories as they looked up into the night sky at the stars overhead. Whatever they were doing it came to a stop with the appearance of an angel. An angel who told them not to be afraid because he came to share the good news of a Savior that was born.
Next scene there not just one angel but many singing the good news of peace on earth good will toward men. God sent a peace offering to the world His name is Jesus. He was willing to send His own Son to them. As our government takes children and place them in foster care they hope to bring peace to a child that is in torment at home. God sent His Son into the world He hope to bring peace to us, not just hoped, but knew it would bring peace eventually to all people. For the message of love and hope is what Christmas is about. It is what Jesus is about. It not just about sacrifice. God gift of peace to man would take time to flourish. Yet God sent the news to certain groups so it would spread like wild fire. Shepherds came in contact with people in their journey in the fields, travelers would spread the story far. God had his own way of telling the story so it pass and He sent those angels straight to those story telling shepherds in the field.
The shepherd’s curiosity was peeked to the point they had to go see this things that was spoken by the angels. They had to see this babe lying in a manger. When they arrived they told the story to the blessed mother and father. Seeing the new life they new the world would have hope, though they understood it not perhaps at that moment for many look for the deliverance of Israel. God gift of peace to the world is Jesus. The hope of a better tomorrow.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the gift of peace to all people. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
