| The Holy Spirit |
| Part Four: by turtle Often we think of unity of in the Holy Spirit of everyone singing together or worshiping in one accord or something done simultaneously as singing If one does response reading it is done in one accord everyone reading together. But what about in a typical church service is the church in one accord besides in responsive reading and singing. Most would probably say yes. The minister seems to be in charge and there seems to be those working under the minister. The minister often taking care of the administrative duties in the church. Then you have teachers, deacons and other workers that work under the leadership of the pastor. Without the leadership of the pastor their is often chaos in the church. One group wanting to out do the other or one group not feeling another group is necessary. Where do our church leaders get instruction it would be from the Holy Spirit. Each person is given a different gift from the Holy Spirit. Pastors are ordain by God and should be lead by the Spirit of God. The ones working under the minister should be lead by the Spirit in each position they hold in the church. As Christian we are all part of God's team, meaning He is the one in charge of the direction we take in ministry. God in charge what part we have in the building up of God's kingdom. Take a look at these verses 1 Corinthians 3:6-11 KJV (6) I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. (7) So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. (8) Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. (9) For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. (10) According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. (11) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. In the passage we are labors with God. One might have the job of sowing and the other might water but God will give the increase. God is the one that draws all men to Himself. Our task is simple to plant and to water. To work with God in the building of the spiritual church. Christ being the foundation and us laying bricks and so forth. The way we lay brick is by sharing the word of God has the Holy Spirit instructs us to. So we understand God is in charge, Christ is the foundation and we are lead by the Spirit to witness. Well turtle that passage had nothing to do with the Spirit leading how do you know the Holy Spirit leads? How do you know God gives the ability to share the word. 2 Peter 1:20-21 KJV (20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. (21) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Since the beginning of time when prophet prophesied they spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. First of all we have to remember last week lesson God gives the ability to speak whether it be in tongues, to preach, to teach, to interpret, etc.... Take a look at this passage. 1 Corinthians 12:3-14 KJV (3) Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. (4) Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. (5) And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. (6) And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. (7) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. (8) For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; (9) To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (10) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: (11) But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (12) For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. (13) For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (14) For the body is not one member, but many. The Holy Spirit gives each person a gift and enables them according to His will. Not all have the same gifts or gift but all are lead by the same Spirit if they are saved. We are all Baptized into the same Spirit when we believe in Christ. Understand the foundation of faith is Jesus Christ. If we are lead by the Holy Spirit the gifts that the Holy Spirit uses in us will witness of Jesus. If we say that I do not think that gift is important or that person is not important just get rid of them then we fail as believers because it causes disunity. We are saying what is and what is not instead of allowing God to use the person has He will in the life of the body of believers. 1 Corinthians 12:15-26 KJV (15) If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? (16) And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? (17) If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? (18) But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. (19) And if they were all one member, where were the body? (20) But now are they many members, yet but one body. (21) And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. (22) Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: (23) And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. (24) For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: (25) That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. (26) And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. This passage above is quite self explanatory. That one person can not say to another their part or role is unimportant. All parts of the body are important. But even so their are things one must be aware of in the body of Christ. Each gift given also has a counterfeit. The New Testament warns about counterfeit gifts. Lets look at a few verses Matthew 24:24 KJV (24) For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 KJV (9) Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, (10) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2 Peter 2:1 KJV (1) But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. Hebrews 13:8-9 KJV (8) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (9) Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. No doubt we need to know that there a false gifts of prophecy and false doctrines. We need to understand there are false miracles as well that God did not perform. We are living in a day today no different then the early church in some ways where people wanted to incorporate their ideology as will as their own theology into the church. If Christ does not change then neither does Christ teachings. Unfortunately there can be confusion in a church about different gifts. 1 Corinthians 14:31-33 KJV (31) For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. (32) And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. (33) For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. James 3:15-18 KJV (15) This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. (16) For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. (17) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. (18) And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. When the gifts of God are in operation their is no confusion there is order. Apostle Paul writes the Corinthian church concerning confusion based on tongues and prophecy, but by the two verses above it is also obvious there can be confusion with prophecy as will as wisdom. And no doubt many of the gifts. One being false teachers and preachers that lead people astray teaching doctrines that are not of the love of Jesus. So why did Paul talk for so long in I Corinthians 14 on the least gift tongues and a more important one prophecy. I think to set example concerning different gifts in the church and not to cause confusion, That each gift has it proper place in the church and also that each gift has validation or purpose. Next week we will continue the discussion on Chapter 14 of I Corinthians. We will be going into the gifts tongues, prophecy and interpretation and much more. |
