| The Holy Spirit |
| Part Six: by turtle Each week we have been discussing who the Holy Spirit is as well as His function in the body of believers as well as who He speaks of to the church and not least but that He is not the author of confusion but He is one of order in the church. So knowing that there are certain things the Bible speaks about the Holy Spirit it makes it easier to recognize the Spirit of Truth (the Holy Spirit) and the Spirit of the Antichrist. The Anti Christ wishes to divide the church as well as cause confusion in the church, He also is a liar. 1 John 2:18 KJV (18) Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 1 John 4:1-6 KJV (1) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (2) Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: (3) And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. (4) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (5) They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. (6) We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 2 John 1:7-11 KJV (7) For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. (8) Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. (9) Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. (10) If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: (11) For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. These verses above talk about how to recognize the antichrist. But there are other verse that will speak even more plainly so it is clear what is of God and not of God. We will be talking about the fruits of the Holy Spirit and the antichrist today. Let’s take a close look at Galatians 5. Galatians 5:14-26 KJV (14) For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (15) But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. (16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (17) For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (18) But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. (19) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, (20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, (21) Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (24) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. (25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (26) Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. If you choose to obey the lust of the flesh(world) then you will not have eternal life. When we choose the way of the world it is not love. People in the world commit adultery, sex outside of marriage and even before marriage. We live in a time when people are choosing to live like the rest of the world and not living as God has directed. Have you ever thought why these things are consider sin? What is the big deal of getting drunk, who cares how much sex I get before marriage, and so what I want to party and so what if I want something my neighbor has, what business is it of God? A lot of people seem to be asking this very question today. Some will say we are living in different times and no one really cares what I do. News Flash: God cares. The things God has commanded us not to do is the very thing that can cause us harm and not just us but others that are in our life as well. All these things have not love in them. They are desires of the flesh and selfish desires. It is seeking after only satisfaction of oneself. Often when one desires to do whatever one wants to do it causes people not to care how it may hurt someone else. No regards if adultery should break up a family and cause mental damage to the kids and spouse. Partying and drunkenness can cause harm because one is not in control of how one reacts. The action of a drunkard is usually not love, it can be one of lust or even causing sin by hurting someone. And envy itself can lead to stealing, or trying to keep up with the Jones' effect. All these things has to deal with one's own desires and not the desires of God. All these things are self motivating. We are taught in the world today whatever feels good must be okay. But it is further from the truth. This does not mean we do not take care of ourselves or have low self esteem. One would be wise to remember this verse. Matthew 22:39 KJV (39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. If you truly love yourself you will not wish to cause yourself harm by no means is this lack of self esteem. It is saying I do not wish to harm anyone, but to love them as I would myself. The same care for one another. And this is where we pick up with the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 (22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. When the gifts of the Spirit are given to a believer there will be fruit production even if it is slow in coming. The Spirit of God produce fruit in our lives if we follow God. We will not desire to satisfy self but to love others, and be longsuffering with others and gentle and good to others. All these things do not cause harm to others. We must remember the fruit of the Spirit does not mean we are a push over either. Christ stood up many times to the Pharisees and Sadducees. He often rebuke them for their hypocrisies. One more point about the fruit of the Spirit there is no law. In other words free to show love and joy and peace and longsuffering. Nothing to hold you back from these things. When we live by the Spirit of God we find ourselves caring and loving others. Caring even about ourselves, but most of all we see people coming to Christ and desiring that same relationship we have with God. The fruit of the Spirit of God is the opposite of the fruit of the antichrist and the world. As we begin to look around we begin to see those with a true love of others. Those who truly have joy and peace. Those that are patient or longsuffering with others who show mercy to those that hurt them. We often see the motivation and attitude behind the deeds as well and can see if they are genuine or not. We will be talking more about fruit bearing and walking by the Spirit of God in the next few lessons. But distinguishing between what is of God and what is not is very important. It helps us to know the truth of what is truly the Spirit of God. |
