Are You Standing In Hot Coals?
Lesson Twenty-eight: by turtle

Taking time to review the early church the main issue was the inability to preach the gospel based on the law of the land. This still goes
on today in some countries. The gospel is not shared freely because of laws. Islamic world prohibits Christianity. Persecution of the
Christians are known, however, some doors that been shut for centuries are being opened.

Every country around the world loves economics and technology, however when it comes to religion it is a whole other issue. I do not
know any faith that does not want to see their faith across the globe and as a Christian this disturbs me even more then I hear the
destruction of some religious groups. However instead of looking at current issues, I think we will take a look back at the early church.
What was happening to early believers. One must realize Christian was taking the economics from the religious elders. This did not set
will with any of them. However one would have to look at Acts 5 to realize it was not issue of economics, but that felt guilt of
crucifying Jesus. However does one figure this. Look closely what said.

Acts 5:34-42 KJV
(34)  Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people,
and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
(35)  And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
(36)  For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined
themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
(37)  After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all,
even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
(38)  And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to
nought:
(39)  But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
(40)  And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in
the name of Jesus, and let them go.
(41)  And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
(42)  And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Instead of the elders coming to repentance they did the opposite and lashed out at Peter and the other apostles and had them thrown in
jail. God opened the jailhouse doors and Peter and the apostles were found at the temple  preaching and teaching. They did not run, but
continued doing as God laid on their hearts to do. The elders beat them and told them not to speak of these things again. They
continued anyway as God commanded them. Why bring up economic issue then, if nothing is mentioned. Will if people in the early
church is giving people money instead of to the temple it makes people highly mad. Something else to note in Acts 5 is one doctor spoke
out if it is not of God it would not survive, they were more afraid of what would happen if they killed those preaching, because of
martyrdom.

Over the pass century or so many false leaders have come and gone. Some rising to fame like Jim Jones and David Koresh. These
groups teaching destruction instead of life. Instead of taking the bull by the horns when problems first began to arise these groups were
left to grow wild. Every church group and leadership group needs pruning from time to time. It needs a revaluation of beliefs to survive
and be whole. It is better to be pruned and clipped then left to become brambles. However when Christianity began to spread did it
have a council it answer to. Yes, it answered to leadership of the apostles. Those that walk with Jesus and knew Him and His ministry.

Acts 11:1-18 KJV
(1)  And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
(2)  And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,
(3)  Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.
(4)  But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,
(5)  I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down
from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:
(6)  Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping
things, and fowls of the air.
(7)  And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
(8)  But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
(9)  But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
(10)  And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
(11)  And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.
(12)  And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the
man's house:
(13)  And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon,
whose surname is Peter;
(14)  Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
(15)  And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
(16)  Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the
Holy Ghost.
(17)  Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could
withstand God?
(18)  When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted
repentance unto life.

This passage is above is about Cornelius in the previous chapter and how his family received Jesus, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Peter went to share with those who would question these things and with his brethren. Every leader needs brethren to answer too. And
sisters to answers to.
