| Lesson 12: The Law Of The Old That Is Covered In the New Testament: I Will Make You Fisher Of Men 2/03/2014 by turtle Matthew 4:18-22 KJV (18) And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. (19) And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. (20) And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. (21) And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. (22) And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. Everyone follows someone. A child follows in the footsteps of their parents, or other influential person. Some in abuse see positive role models and follow and others follow abusers. What causes a person to be evil or good can very. We all have are breaking points and things we say we will never do, but later do. Looking back if one has time they can see a pattern that lead them to their choice in life. Jesus was predestine to be the Messiah, the Savior to the World. He would fulfill the Old Testament prophesy spoken. Yet those that fail to see Him as the Messiah accept the fact He was a good teacher if they believe He existed. To compare the Old to the New Testament we have to understand a little of calling of God and the following in the footsteps of leaders/others based on character. If I examined all the role models I have had over the years in faith, some would find themselves lacking and others lived extraordinary lives. Yet often we know little of our role models outside the realm in which we see them. Ruth role model Naomi must have been outstanding for Ruth to declare I will go with you to a people I never meet. Elisha followed Elijah knowing he was a prophet. Samuel lived in the temple with Eli, but Eli had two sons that were wicked that choose money and wealth over the things of God. Aaron and Miriam had Moses as a role model, even though Aaron spoke before Pharaoh for Moses. Who is your role model? Jesus was a role model to Peter, Andrew, James and John. Jesus called these men brethren because of the Jewish faith. A faith Jesus practice and taught and was a part of the prophesy that was and was to come. He was of priestly line as will as the kingly line. He was fulfilling his call as priest, prophet and Messiah. A man worthy to be followed by moral character as well as godly character because He was the Word of God in the flesh. He was the only begotten of the Father God. Jesus tells the disciples to come follow me and I will make you fisher of men, did they understand they would be preachers of faith? Every disciple called by God is a fisher of men/women. It not about being behind a pulpit necessarily that makes one a preacher, or a teacher, but demonstration of faith. Do you follow in Jesus example on how to live, follow His teachings and commands? As we study we will see how Jesus teachings were the same as God and even going beyond the call of the Old Testament in some cases, not to supercede God the Father but an example to go beyond the call of duty. To lay one life down for the Gospel. Jesus will make you a fisher of men/women if you follow Him. If you do nothing more but live in obedience to His Word. Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the cross of Jesus, and the power of your Word as a testimony to all that will call on your name on how to trust and obey. In Jesus precious name, Amen. http://www.turtle30cshell.com _ |
