Adultery

Exodus 20:14 KJV
(14)  Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Some wonder why adultery is such a big deal to religious folks.
Marriage is a sacred and holy union between man and wife. It
is not to be defiled. It is not be tarnished with sexual
relationships outside the marriage bed. Sex is the one gift you
can give your spouse that is separated from all other
relationships you have with others. It is the one gift you give
your spouse that is not given to others if you desire to follow
the law of God. Unfortunately God’s ways are seldom followed
in society today. Sexual intercourse as become ramped with
mixed partners and no one caring who they do it with. Marriage
has become less then a sacred union in society. Yet religious
people still take the stand of sanctity of marriage. Are religious
people tempted to break their marriage vows, of course, it
happens every day. Yet their vows and the licensing of the
state helps prevent the sin of adultery.

Why is sin adultery so wrong besides the fact that marriage in
scripture is defined between one man and one woman by God
ordinances from the beginning. One it causes a family to be in
turmoil if mom and dad can not keep their pants on around
others. Kids talk, people talk and whispers begin. The family
unit is broken down by mistrust and suspicion. If the adults can
not trust each other, the kids are going to know it and the fear
of divorce comes to the children. The children’s once stable
home is broken and shattered. It it necessary if caught in
adultery to be killed. That was also part of Old Testament law
or was that because of spiritual adultery and not physical
sexual adultery. It had to do with both. The harshness of the
law was to keep people from defiling their marriage. To keep
the people of Israel holy unto the Lord because of their calling
in life to live example to the world of the ways of God.

Was the law to not commit adultery to much to ask of Israel or
those that worshipped God? Jesus said to the woman caught in
adultery in John 8, to go and sin no more. Hosea was told to
take a wife of whoredom/prostitution, because of the
whoredom committed by Israel to the Lord. This is spiritual
whoredom of Israel, to not follow the traditions of God. One
has to ask why would God ask someone to take a wife of
known sin to marry. Why would God allow this relationship, is it
to point out the state of Israel not following God’s way. The
laws of holiness were design to set God’s people apart. To set
God’s people a part from the sinful world. No one perfect God
knows that, but when sin becomes so ramped it destroy the
lives of others including the family unit. The family unit needs to
be stable enough to weather the storms in life. The family unit
should be a place that one can go when there is no where else
to go. It should be a place of safety in the storms of life. It is a
place where people know you and all about you and accept
your faults. Yet sin breaks down the unity. If the father or
mother destroys this unit for their children, by the acts of
immorality. Then children take the immoral behavior as
something okay to do. You did dad or mom so I can too.
Societal behaviors are past down from parent to child. It does
not have to remain that way, but it can and behavior is often
learned. If parents set the example of infidelity, then the kids
generally follow good moral characters of their parents.

God order Hosea to marry a woman of sexual immorality. A
woman seeped in sin to show Israel that even though they
turned from Him, He would come after them, he Still loved them
and He never stopped loving them because of their failures. Yet
God desires man to turn from sin in general and to submit to
the law of love. To kill those caught in adultery was to promote
holiness of a nation. Laws are meant to teach clean life style
and protection of family and friends alike. All sin causes death
and not life. These rules were to point out the difference in
obedience and sinfulness. Yet society under strict rules fail to
demonstrate compassion and executes judgment upon those
that chose not to follow their life style. America is fast become
a nation of tolerance of sin and less and less tolerant of God’s
law of holiness.

God decrees something it for a reason, if nothing more then to
point out our sin and his love for the children of disobedience.
God desire to turn his children from life of sin to be holy like
Himself. He desires to change us if we will allow Him too.
Change us from going down a road of sin that leads to eternal
damnation to a life leading heaven bound for eternity with God
through Christ own death on the cross for our sins.

God sent His Son to pay the price for sin, so no one else would
have to suffer for sin if they would only believe. Yet it never
gave us a license to sin. God still promote holiness. Holiness is
a chosen life style. Nation of America has left her roots of
holiness to a life style of tolerance. Yet the rules of our nation is
to protect all people’s life style. Holiness is still a life choice for
some. If that there choice allow them their choice to live for
God.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to live holy unto you in every
way, but especially in our marriage. In Jesus precious name,
Amen.
