God/Father of Those Who Fear Him.
Lesson Three: by turtle

Today's lesson is about the creation of man. Man is the only living creature that God
made in His image. Most wonder do I look like God physically, if so how can this be
because most humans look different then each other. We are not carbon copies of each
other in appearance. Some people are white, black, brown, yellow, red, etc, and yet you
say I am made in God's image. First we must understand God is Spirit. We are not just a
physical being but also a spiritual being. We are spiritually made like God but without
perfection of God. In other words we are not all knowing, all wisdom, all righteousness,
all merciful, All loving, But we all do have the ability to think and to learn, we gain
wisdom, we can be righteous, merciful and loving at times. We are made then in God's
likeness, but not his completeness, if we were we would then be God.

Genesis 1:26-27 KJV
(26)  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and
over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
(27)  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and
female created he them.

In the verse above a key word is us. People often wonder if this is a misprint and the
answer is no. The word us or ours refers to the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). We
must go to John 1 to even begin to grasp this I think. Take a look at these verses.

John 1:1-3 KJV
(1)  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(2)  The same was in the beginning with God.
(3)  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

God word was with Him and was Him. Jesus is the spoken word of God. Please refer to
the Bible study on Love Lessons for more details on Christ being the word.

So God the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit were there together as one but as three
distinct parts of the Godhead.

God also gave man power over the animals. His job was to take care of the animals. I
often think of our two house cats as being very spoiled creatures in God's Kingdom. They
are also fat and lazy, but they both adore my husband and I. This is not necessarily what
God meant for us to do with creation, but I think it is something we has humans have is a
need for companionship with God creation. God also gave fruit trees and plants that
bared seed for food.

Genesis 1:29-31 KJV
(29)  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the
face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you
it shall be for meat.
(30)  And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that
creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and
it was so.
(31)  And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the
evening and the morning were the sixth day.

After God made man he rested on the seventh day. We often think of rest as being a long
nap, but here God took time to look at what He created. Took a look at all the work and
labor of His hands. No doubt what He saw pleased Him.

Genesis 2:2-3 KJV
(2)  And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the
seventh day from all his work which he had made.
(3)  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested
from all his work which God created and made.

Though I love to go now through all creation I think this part summons up that God
created man and women both.

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them.

Though we are talking about the creation of human beings I think it is best to stop there
for now. Understanding that God created is the key to lesson two and three of this study.
Taking God at His word knowing He created is important. We of course are looking at
who God is in these lessons. And one of the first things we learn when studying God's
word is He is creator.

Some might wonder why the study is God/Father to those that fear Him. I really do not
think I have explain this. Fear is not being terrified of God but a reverence for God and
knowledge of who He is. Knowing why God of the Bible is worthy to be reverence as well
as worship is important.  Why He is the only God in the universe. We will continue this
study and learn more about God and His attributes next week.
