What hard about this next lesson is looking and saying were there evil spirits in the Old Testament? After all no doubt the next
story is speaking of spiritual demons and not an illness. These were demons that spoke clearly back to Jesus. Let us look at the
story first.

Matthew 8:28-34 KJV
(28)  And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils,
coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
(29)  And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to
torment us before the time?
(30)  And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
(31)  So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
(32)  And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd
of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
(33)  And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the
possessed of the devils.
(34)  And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out
of their coasts.

Old Testament accounts of demon possession seems far fetch but it is not.

Zechariah 13:2 KJV
(2)  And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and
they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

1 Kings 22:22-23 KJV
(22)  And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his
prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
(23)  Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath
spoken evil concerning thee.

Job 1:8-12 KJV
(8)  And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and
an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
(9)  Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
(10)  Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed
the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
(11)  But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
(12)  And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So
Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

Several things one must remember when talking about Satan, he has no more control then what God allows him to have. He
once was angel of light. He still has to submit to the authority of God. Just like we all do saints or lost alike. God allows Satan to
test the saints as well as do evil. Most will not like that. None of us do. However it is a fact that Satan can not do anymore then
what God allows. The purpose of God allowing Satan to test, to use Satan would be to carry out those things that need tearing
down that are not of God. Job was a righteous man, but he gotten a little to self righteous in his life and at the end of Job, he
repents.

One has to ask with one repents. After evil befalls them, have they reached a new high. Maybe. It called recognizing none of us
are worthy of anything God gives, but allows us to have all the things He created because He loved us. It call coming to a place
of humility or humbleness. Christ came in his humility as a child. He came off His throne to live as we do. God did not have to
do this for us. However He was showing us that He was not to big to be humbled. Yet His humility came not because of
imperfection but because of His perfection. He loved us so much He wished none of us should perish if we would just believe in
His only Begotten Son. Just believe what He says is true. Truth is all that tell the truth, all they ever desire is for someone to
believe it. Satan made a choice to trick Eve and to play God by lying about the consequences of eating the fruit of the tree of
knowledge of good and evil. No doubt he himself had taken a bite and found the fruit tasting good, but the consequences of
doing so was knowing the opposite of God. Satan did not want to be alone in his predicament tricking Eve. Satan, Adam and
Eve were cast out.

Revelation 12:9 KJV
(9)  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was
cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Genesis 3:14-23 KJV
(14)  And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every
beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
(15)  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou
shalt bruise his heel.
(16)  Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children;
and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
(17)  And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I
commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of
thy life;
(18)  Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
(19)  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou
art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
(20)  And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
(21)  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
(22)  And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his
hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
(23)  Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

Satan because of his sin punishment was to bruise the heel of man.

Luke 10:17-20 KJV
(17)  And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
(18)  And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
(19)  Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall
by any means hurt you.
(20)  Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written
in heaven.

Do not be a shamed if the devil causes you pain, but rejoice in the fact that you have the authority by God from the beginning to
bruise him, but God has the ability to crush him.

Hebrews 2:13-16 KJV
(13)  And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
(14)  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that
through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
(15)  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
(16)  For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Revelation 20:1-3 KJV
(1)  And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
(2)  And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
(3)  And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more,
till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Revelation 20:8-10 KJV
(8)  And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together
to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
(9)  And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire
came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
(10)  And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are,
and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

We have the authority to cast out demons in Jesus name, yet some demons it must be done with prayer and fasting.

Matthew 17:19-21 KJV
(19)  Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
(20)  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed,
ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
(21)  Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Christ authority to cast out demons came because He is the word of God that became flesh. His authority being the word of
God. His authority came without the need to fast and pray, yet He set the example for you and I. Even demons in Matthew 8
knew who Jesus was.

Matthew 8:28-29 KJV
(28)  And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils,
coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
(29)  And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to
torment us before the time?

Only way to defeat the enemy is to take sides with God and not the devil. Live for God and you will see the enemy crumble.
Take sides against God and you will crumble.
