The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
|
Lesson Thirty-six: by turtle
No one wants to talk about death much less persecution. However persecution is something many believers need to understand does happen. A preacher who choose to speak the truth of God’s word and God’s commands can expect to be persecuted and possible loose their life. Not everyone accept the truth of God word especially if sin is taught about. One can not sugar coat sin just to make aristocrats happy. John the Baptist was one not afraid to speak about the queen and the happenings in the palace that was sinful. John’s boldness would cause him to be beheaded for preaching the truth of repentance. Here is where John made his mistake, he expect a none believer to accept God’s standards. Yet what was even worse he spoke about the king sleeping with His brother wife. However it did not change the fact that it made the queen angry. People can sometimes accept that they have sin in their life, but they do not always agree what they should do about that sin.
Matthew 14:1-13 KJV (1) At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus, (2) And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him. (3) For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife. (4) For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. (5) And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. (6) But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. (7) Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask. (8) And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger. (9) And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. (10) And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. (11) And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. (12) And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus. (13) When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
Elijah often spoke to the king of Israel during his life time, and found opposition from queen Jezebel and King Ahab. Because of what Elijah said it would cause Jezebel to want old prophet Elijah dead. However Elijah is not the only prophet that went before the king concerning sin. The prophet Isaiah went before Hezekiah concerning sin and Hezekiah chose to repent. Naaman went to David concerning is sin with Bathsheba and David repented.
John had to die that was prophesied by Jesus. John ministry would have to decrease for his to increase. Yet both spoke of righteousness and living by the commands of God, Jesus was the Messiah. The King in verse one of today’s passage though Jesus must of been John resurrected. However, what must understand if a all preacher preach about God what they say say should line up with one another. Ministers learn not only from class room’s but from hearing minister that inspire them to preach the truth of God’s word. This is why they sound a like. The Word of God does not change. It matters not if it is old or New Testament the message is still the same. And as we continue looking for prophesy throughout Matthew we need to remember that Christ teaching was always the same as His Father. If God’s standard have not changed then why should our standards change. After all one receives the Holy Spirit to help in our obedience to God. The Holy Spirit writes the laws on our hearts when we get saved, it apart of the New Covenant. Not until one receive Christ(word of God) one does not have to obey it. However what part of scripture does one choose to ignore. Upon believe in Christ the blood of Christ covers all our sin. Then God’s word is written on our hearts by God’s Spirit.
Hebrews 10:11-24 KJV (11) And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: (12) But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; (13) From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. (14) For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. (15) Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, (16) This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; (17) And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. (18) Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. (19) Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, (20) By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; (21) And having an high priest over the house of God; (22) Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (23) Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) (24) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
One gets the impression of John’s death be a sign of a reason not to follow God, yet when we see persecution we fail to remember the blessing of following God. The blessings of following God is seeing the signs and wonders of God. Read this passage and think, is these miracles and signs and wonders of healing worth the reason to follow Jesus? Most would agree to see Jesus solving the problem of many through healing through feeding of His people when there is not enough money, then one has to ask, is God not good.
Matthew 14:14-21 KJV (14) And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. (15) And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. (16) But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. (17) And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. (18) He said, Bring them hither to me. (19) And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. (20) And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. (21) And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
