Why Miracles Happen?
Lesson Ten: by turtle

Mark 6:30-45 KJV
(30)  And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both
what they had done, and what they had taught.
(31)  And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for
there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
(32)  And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
(33)  And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all
cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
(34)  And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward
them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many
things.
(35)  And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a
desert place, and now the time is far passed:
(36)  Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages,
and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
(37)  He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we
go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
(38)  He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they
say, Five, and two fishes.
(39)  And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
(40)  And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
(41)  And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and
blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two
fishes divided he among them all.
(42)  And they did all eat, and were filled.
(43)  And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
(44)  And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
(45)  And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other
side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

This story is a remarkable account of the love Jesus had for the people. Prior to when this
story begin, John the Baptist is beheaded. After his death, it left his disciples without a
shepherd. John preached repentance, John spoke of who Jesus was. So with the information
John’s followers had they went and followed Jesus. They went to Him and told of all that
had happened.

Jesus left the area, but even so many still followed. Him. Jesus drew a crowd to Him
everywhere He went. It was because of the miracles and the parables he taught. It was not
always miracles that made that crowd come to him, for often He did teach. Jesus was about
teaching about who He was and how we ought to live. It was not always about healing that
drew the crowd, though no doubt it helped.

The day got late and it was passed time to eat. Disciples recommended to send the crowd away.
But Jesus suggested that they feed the crowd instead. The problem was by sight there was not
enough food, but with faith there was plenty. If you ever sat to a poor man banquet with a
crowd you might wonder how a crowd could be feed. It is no doubt the grace of God.

The disciples brought Jesus five loaves and two fish that they found among the crowd. The
crowd was five thousand men. This did not bother Jesus. He sat down and miracle began to
happen. There was enough food to feed the crowd with baskets leftover. Twelve to be exact.
Then He told the disciples to leave and He would send the crowd away.

Jesus has authority over the impossible. What may seem impossible, Jesus can do. Jesus can
move the mountains in our lives if we will trust Him. Sometimes things do not happen like we
want them to. Sometimes we are looking from our perspective on things then from God’s
point of view. If we continue to look only from our point of view we will see nothing happen. If
we look to the possibility of what God can do we can see mountains move. It is called living by
faith and not by sight. Churches and ministries have been built on less money then the world
would use in reality when people of faith trust in God. Impossibilities seem to become possible
with prayer.

Jesus took time to pray for our example. He shows us we must pray before doing anything and
also afterwards. Taking time to be alone with God. Often many things that Jesus did was for
our example on how to live and do His work. Without communication with God we are
without direction. We must learn to trust in God for the impossible. Many missionaries in the
foreign fields do just that very thing. Live by faith. Miracles can teach us to live by faith and
not by sight.

One more thought on this living by faith. We must take what we have to see the mountain
move. We must take first steps to see our reality take place. To see God move we must start
with what we have and give it to Jesus. The disciples gave of what the large group had and
placed it before Jesus. Jesus took it and increased it. Simple Bible truth. Give it to God and He
will increase it, His way and not ours, for His glory and honor. I often think of times God
required of the Israelites to donate things in the building of the temple and also of the
tabernacle. They gave out of what they had. He did not take everything they had. God does
not rob his people. If one gives all to God does not mean you necessarily give up everything
and say here. God entrust us to use what we have wisely. When we give it to God we are saying
Lord use what I have for your glory and honor.

Example: My computer I can use it for God’s glory and honor or I can not. I give it to
God to use for His work. Just like I give my other talents to Him as well.  He gives us gifts to
help us with our talents for ministry. The computer though I own it is still God’s.

If you think about those twelve baskets of food leftover, Jesus gave back from what He used to
feed the crowd. Wow. Jesus did not rob who he got donations from. Some ministers will
however rob the people. One must use spiritual discernment when giving. The church in Acts
gave out of what they had, and not one was without.

Acts 4:34-35 KJV
(34)  Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or
houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
(35)  And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man
according as he had need.

Living by faith as the early church did will help in bringing revival back to our great land. Get
the money hungry out and put Jesus and faith in.
