Why Miracles Happen?
Lesson Three: by turtle

Mark 2:1-12 KJV
(1)  And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that
he was in the house.
(2)  And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no
room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the
word unto them.
(3)  And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of
four.
(4)  And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered
the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed
wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
(5)  When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be
forgiven thee.
(6)  But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
(7)  Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God
only?
(8)  And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned
within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
(9)  Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or
to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
(10)  But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive
sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
(11)  I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
(12)  And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all;
insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on
this fashion.

After any major disaster you hear reports of people trying their hardest to get in
to a hospital to be treated for wounds or illnesses. During flu season it is hard to
get in and see a physician. Now intensify the problem with reporters and people
trying to hear a doctor speak about the epidemic. No different in Jesus’ day
when they heard he was a healer. The crowd gather so much that their was no way
to get to the front of the line.

Four friends desperate to see their friend healed was willing to do anything to
reach Jesus, even opening the ceiling of the house where Christ was teaching. They
were desperate because they loved their friend. They had faith that was beyond
measure. Jesus that day was preaching about the Kingdom of Heaven. He spoke
of no doubt repentance and sin and turning toward God. The Pharisees and
reporters were no doubt shocked to see the length that the four friends went to get
their friend to Jesus.

What amazed the Pharisees more was when Jesus said your sins are forgiven. They
could not imagine the authority Jesus had to forgive sins. In fact was it just words
or did he have the ability to forgive sins. The truth is Jesus does have the
authority and power to forgive sins. Jesus proved it when he healed the man on
the cot that was lowered. This healing was for a sign that He could forgive sins. It
was not just to make a man whole or to draw a crowd. Many seen and believe in
Him and of course word traveled. But many came looking for the miracle and not
the forgiveness of sins. We must remember the people were blinded to who Jesus
was. Some did understand for we have the disciples who witness the events and
believed that Jesus was the Messiah.

Which is more important to you to know your sins are forgiven or that you are
healed for a time physically? I personally would rather know my sins are forgiven.
All you have to do to have forgiveness is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and
confess that you are a sinner. He will forgive all you got to do is receive His
forgiveness.
