Why Miracles Happen?

Lesson Seven: by turtle
Mark 5:1-20 KJV (1) And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. (2) And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, (3) Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: (4) Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. (5) And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. (6) But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, (7) And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. (8) For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. (9) And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. (10) And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. (11) Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. (12) And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. (13) And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. (14) And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done. (15) And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. (16) And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine. (17) And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts. (18) And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. (19) Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. (20) And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
I am starting this week at looking at the man with an unclean spirit. This is an interesting story and I want you just to read it in its entirety first.
Mark 5:1-5 KJV (1) And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
This is an odd story in one way because it seems a bit extreme, but even today there are people that are hard to control and hard to chain down. Most are consider to have mental illness. Yet when we look at this story it is clear this man had evil spirit/ spirits.
Mark 5:6-10KJV
(6) But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, (7) And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. (8) For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. (9) And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. (10) And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
Take note here the man that had evil spirits ran to meet Jesus. This seems a bit odd, yet at the same time we must remember the enemy knows who Jesus is. The enemy bow and worshipped Jesus. Jesus authority over evil spirits are shown here. Christ ask the spirit his name. He tells him legion because we are many. Meaning many evil spirits. This man was not possessed by one evil spirit but many evil spirits. Yet the evil spirits feared Christ. Realize today the children of God are known as well by the devil. His aim is to destroy us. We however must stand firm in our faith.
1 Peter 5:8-9 KJV (8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (9) Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Jesus then rebukes the the evil spirits to come out of the man. They asked Jesus to send them into a herd of pigs. Pigs would of been a staple of food in that region. For this was not a Jewish villiage. Jews could not eat pigs. This caused quite a stir back in the man’s village. Such a stir they were afraid of Jesus. Not only was this man that was never calm, calm, but their pigs had fallen over the cleft.
The man wanted to follow Jesus, but Jesus told him to go to his village and share the good news with others. We are to follow Christ but often our ministry is at home. Sometimes are ministry is on the foreign field as well as the home field. We must share what the Lord has done for us. Clearly Christ had made an impacted in this man’s life. No doubt the miracle that befell this man was for one thing to glorify who Jesus is and to bring others to salvation as well.
Are you serving and sharing or are you sitting back and not telling what Christ has done for you. Christ has authority over his enemies and so do we, even if we succumb to death. For Christ had victory over the grave and we can be assured if we are saved that we have a home in heaven as well.
2 Corinthians 5:6-8 KJV (6) Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (7) (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) (8) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
John 14:1-4 KJV (1) Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (2) In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (4) And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
