Why Miracles Happen?
Lesson Nine: by turtle

Mark 6:1-6 KJV
(1)  And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his
disciples follow him.
(2)  And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and
many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these
things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty
works are wrought by his hands?
(3)  Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses,
and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were
offended at him.
(4)  But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own
country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
(5)  And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few
sick folk, and healed them.
(6)  And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the
villages, teaching.

Working on lesson nine and a lot of things began to go through my mind. Here
we have a story of Jesus being in the village where He grew up. Everyone knew
Him. He was a son of a carpenter. Yet when Christ came teaching and performing
miracles no one believed. Seems like a strange event. Every town Christ healed in
people believed. People seen the healing taking place of friends and family of
chronic conditions that seems to have no cure and yet Christ enters his earthly
home town and finds few believe. Yet this did not stop Him from doing some
miracles, he just did not do as many because of a lack of faith of the people.
Instead he went about teaching them. No doubt the church world has gotten to
this same place in some ways. They desire the miracles but faith seems to be the
trouble. Yet it only takes a small amount of faith for a miracle to happen. Yet
miracles are not massed produced on our time table. It is by God’s timing and
purpose. I think the showing of a lack of faith in his hometown would help the
disciples to understand what Christ was fixing to ask them to do. Lets look at the
next passage of scripture in Mark.

Mark 6:7-13 KJV
(7)  And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and
two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
(8)  And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a
staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
(9)  But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
(10)  And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there
abide till ye depart from that place.
(11)  And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence,
shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto
you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment,
than for that city.
(12)  And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
(13)  And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick,
and healed them.

Christ was fixing to send out the disciples to teach and to heal. Yet he was
preparing them for those that would not receive them. How true it is. I found
some churches more then willing to let you preach and teach and yet some of
them are not what they seem. Yet so it is in the world. Some people receive but no
peace is there. Some open doors and then slam them in your face.

Christ sent his disciples out to preach and to heal. He sent them with no worldly
comforts just the clothes on their backs. He was sending them out to teach them
faith. How to trust God for provisions and needs. Healing that would take place
would be for their benefit as well as to help build the faith of the people. What a
step of faith these men would need to have. Yet they seen the wonders of God and
believed in Jesus enough to follow his instruction. They seen Him rejected even by
His own village, yet this did not discourage them. They went out on faith. The
lack of miracles and the abundance of miracles are for faith building. Can you
trust God even when your miracle do not come. Do you still trust God despite
rejection? Are you willing to leaning on God blindly and follow Christ
instruction? If the answer is yes, then you are ready for the journey ahead of you.
If you are willing to deal with whatever comes your way, you are ready to follow
Jesus each step of the way despite miracles or lack of miracles. We are to teach
and preach at open doors.

One thing I have also learned wisdom must be used at open doors. Sometimes
doors are opened but they are ones you should not walk through. In Acts 8
Simeon the sorcerer want to buy the Holy Spirit. You can not go into places that
want to use God as there own financial gain. These groups more then gladly
welcome anyone in without knowing anything about a speaker. These are open
doors that one should stay away from. People that use God are not doing the
work of God.
