Do Not Be Like Them

Matthew 23:1-4 KJV (1) Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, (2) Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: (3) All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. (4) For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
Years and years ago I remember as a camper having kp( kitchen patrol) meaning that we had to set the table. The table was set. And we ate breakfast. Then it was time to clear the table. Now these plates were not normal plates. These were those thick old fashion restaurant plates. I was about nine I guess and will that big thick tray was not so easy to manage with ten of them thick plates with silverware on the side. Next thing I knew the plates the silverware were all on the floor. It was just to big for me to manage. Should of not been in so much a hurry, I should of taken a little at a time. However I did what I thought was expect and tried to carry the whole thing. As those plates shattered to the floor that little nine year old girl became quite embarrassed. Someone came to clean up the mess.
There is a point to this story. Noblemen and women stand in place of worship, yet are they desiring the chief position. They all want hierarchy but do they want the responsibility that comes with it. Can they carry the loaded tray of plates. Can they carry the burden that comes on that tray. Royalty deals with the dirty dishes of people’s lives. How they deal with it and how they react shows if they are nobility. Truth I think no one could bare the burden of those chief positions unless God enables them. They are rigorous with formality. Yet these formalities are a necessary evil, an example of how to live. Yet are we should desire the things of God and not the legalist world.
The position God puts you in is the grace God grants to all. Will you honor God or take the chief position because you believe you are worthy of the honor. Take the lower seat and honor God.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to honor you first with our heart, soul and mind. Help us to seek you and not the seat of nobility. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
