John 20:19-31 KJV
(19)  Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week,
when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for
fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto
them, Peace be unto you.
(20)  And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and
his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
(21)  Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my
Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
(22)  And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto
them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
(23)  Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and
whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
(24)  But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with
them when Jesus came.
(25)  The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the
Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print
of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my
hand into his side, I will not believe.
(26)  And after eight days again his disciples were within, and
Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and
stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
(27)  Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold
my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and
be not faithless, but believing.
(28)  And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my
God.
(29)  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me,
thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have
believed.
(30)  And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his
disciples, which are not written in this book:
(31)  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through
his name.

No one knows why it took eight days to appear to disciples again
after the first encounter or of the Holy Spirit being received by the
disciples he saw in the upper room after He was risen. Yet we do
understand that Jesus appearance was enough for those that
witnessed to believe and receive His Spirit. A Spirit of peace. When
they receive the Holy Spirit they were given the power to forgive and
to forgive thing maybe not normally forgivable. After all Jesus forgive
His disciples for abandoning Him in His hour of need. If a house is on
fire and a fire fighter goes in with his partner only to be abandon
when things get to hot, it ashamed to the one leaving. Fire fighters
are taught to stay in the fire until both leave or both die. Military same
way in battle, they fight and stand together. However most would
agree Jesus prevented protection, for Peter had cut off a soldiers
ear, only to have Jesus heal the man. Part of healing process comes
when the enemy is defeated before going into battle, but still required
to perform their duty.

If God’s grace is such to forgive all our sins then we better believe
He is able to do as He says, despite are running in fear as Jonah, or
refusing to obey like Lot, to the point Lot and his wife, was taken by
force from their village, with their children, because they were in
harms way. God’s protection to remove us from the pit we are falling
into because of our choice to believe and walk in His ways.

Let us get back to the first day of the week. Jesus gave the ability to
forgive by the Holy Spirit. Our very nature not to forgive, but always
with right to forgive. Jewish people were taught to revenge sin
instead of forgive. Especially if one killed a person’s brother, or broke
any of the laws. People would repay. Jesus first gift to man after his
resurrection was the Holy Spirit and the second the right to forgive.

Jesus appeared eight days later to Thomas on Sunday, the first day
of week. First day being important for it would become our Sabbath.
The day of Christ appearing to the disciples. When Jesus told
Thomas stick your fingers into my hands, Thomas knew that Jesus
had heard all he had said. That all Thomas needed to believe. He
believed finally for he doubted whether Jesus was really the Messiah.
Jesus says blessed are those that believed without seeing Him. It
takes faith to believe, but to know there were those that would have
had to seen the nail scarred hands as confirmation is only a reminder
of how people need evidence to believe. God gives evidence through
miracles, signs and wonders. Yet Christ first sign of who He was
came through His resurrection, despite the many miracles given. So
we celebrate the first day of the week Sunday as the Lord’s day.

Dear Heavenly Father remind us of why Jesus was resurrected, for
forgiveness of sin and we to should do likewise as He did for us.
Reminds us upon receive salvation, the Holy Spirit is given to help us
to forgive. Remind us you began to teach us again on the first day of
the week. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
