Exodus 22:1-11 KJV
(1)  If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall
restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
(2)  If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there
shall no blood be shed for him.
(3)  If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for
he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold
for his theft.
(4)  If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or
ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.
(5)  If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put
in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field; of the best of his
own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make
restitution.
(6)  If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn,
or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed therewith; he that
kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
(7)  If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep,
and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him
pay double.
(8)  If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be
brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his
neighbour's goods.
(9)  For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for
sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another
challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the
judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto
his neighbour.
(10)  If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep,
or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man
seeing it:
(11)  Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he
hath not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods; and the owner of it
shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.

Jewish law verse Roman law of stealing is clearly seen in scripture.
Under Roman rule people were executed for being a thief and under
Jewish law they had to repay what was stolen. How often different
laws are seen in scripture, when reading most books only one set of
rules are taught. In scripture we see a standard of rules that are God’
s verse a legal law that is said to be God’s law too. How do we
understand the purpose of a law between God’s law and man’s law.
Will God’s law anyone bring His rule is worthy of death. Man’s law
state no one is worthy of death because we all break rules but
punishment comes just the same to correct an issue. These
corrections or a social law of judgment. It like seeing a criminal get a
way with a crime, and he dies a few years later in pain. One has to
ask was the criminal action even justifiable by our law, even though
not enough evidence could be provided to bring a charge. Yet one
might say God’s wrath came anyway. Yet one might say that when
anyone dies, wages of sin is death right. Yet gift of God is eternal life
through Christ Jesus.

God’s law is all ready in place unless the rapture of the church
comes. Yet we know in Matthew the rapture that took place in
chapter 27 left the living behind. Yet one see a final judgment coming
when Christ returns to get His people. The judgment to come is the
eternal lake of fire. Even the dead in hell will rise up second, those in
heaven will descend with Christ, only to be joined by the believer in
the sky. The final wrath of God will come. Unfortunately believers will
see it. Why unfortunately because I do not doubt there will be people
below we wish we could bring with us. It God’s call not ours to make.

Here the point the law of steal and retribution is man’s law and God’s
law and instruction to man, just like the killing of the man who
collected firewood. The laws of man must be executed or society
becomes soft and chaotic. God’s law is like a end or judgment for
what society fails to take care of. Yet things concerning the temple
and the ark was punishment executed by God. The Philistine’s stole
the ark of the covenant, only to be plagued with tumors. God first sent
a warning to the enemy of his wrath and it was enough. That when
the Philistine’s understood the plague came from God of Israel they
returned the ark. On a cart with a oxen towing it toward Jerusalem.

God warns the heathen and kills those that know better?? Will
sometimes, it depends on what the outcome of God’s wrath is. He
knows what it going to take to correct someone. His mercy and His
wrath is based on this knowledge. We only see the actions, we do not
read the heart of man. Rachel stole her father’s idols, only to die in
child birth when they reach Bethel a place that Jacob required his
household to give up false gods. Yet Rachel had the ability to give her
father the idols she stolen already. Her death in child birth a correction
or justification for unbelief. Some might say Rachel death was just
because of child birth, but in truth we only see a small picture if we
think that is so. There was a reason to the mentioning in scripture of
Rachel hiding the idols. Only to help in understanding what occurred if
nothing else. Yet all women dying in giving birth is not necessarily
because of something they did but could have been because original
sin of Adam. Maybe the person that died fulfilled their mission on
earth. Know one can really say without knowing the whole story.

God taught repayment to Israel through the law on stealing. Does
God repay someone who loose their wife, does he restore like he did
Job, who lost all but his nagging wife. There is no doubt that God’s
ways is not our ways. By the way no wonder Job’s wife nagged him
some, all he did was sit and mourn and scrap his sores with a piece
of clay.

Sin against man leads to man’s correction, sin against God leads to
death and only God knows how soon. God instruction to man might
seem harsh, but the only way to keep control is obedience to the law
against sin, and that includes stealing and killing. You steal something
you repay it.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to remember to keep your laws
concerning worshipping only you and help us keep man’s laws of
justice. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
