| Lesson 80: The Law of The Old That is Covered in the New Testament: The Stealing 4/12/2014 by turtle John 12:1-8 KJV (1) Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. (2) There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. (3) Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. (4) Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, (5) Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? (6) This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. (7) Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. (8) For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always. I wonder some how much did the disciples fully comprehend about what was to come. How much did they understand about Jesus’ death and resurrection. How much did those in attendance to Jesus fully grasp of His saving power. Mary was so thankful that her brother was whole, he had been dead and now was alive having dinner with the one that had risen him from the grave. Was Mary out of her mind with washing Jesus’ feet with the best she had in the house. Judas thought the anointment Mary used could have been given to the poor. Mary was treating Jesus as a king. Mary was preparing Jesus to be Lord. Did Jesus need any preparation, no but the people did. The people need to understand who He was. He did not do this quickly, but He allowed people to come on their own realization of who He was. You can tell people Jesus is the Christ, but people must come to that conclusion on their own. Did Mary understand what she did for Jesus was a preparation that could not be done later. Mary would go to the tomb to find it empty. Mary would go to the tomb with the other women. She would not be the one to talk to Jesus at the tomb, but she be with original party to see the empty tomb. I wonder did she ponder these things when Jesus was crucified and seen the tomb was empty. This is Mary of Bethany. Judas like a theft want the money for himself, he knew Jesus would be turned over the religious counsel and to the government, for he had received silver for the task he was to accomplish. Judas a man who walked with Jesus but never understanding who Jesus was. A man chosen to betray Jesus. One the devil would enter to do the task of betrayal. Judas had it in his heart to steal the Lord from all those He knew. Jesus sold like Joseph for a task that could not be done by anyone else. The story of Joseph was prophesied about. Abraham was told his people would be sold for 400 years into bondage, then released. Jesus was prophesied about including his death and resurrection, but no one understood. Jesus sold to accomplish the task. Stolen from His people, and enslaved to the will of man, which was the will of God in this case to take care of sin of the world. Jesus told Judas not to steal from Mary, not steal the gift she gave to Him from Him. He could not take the gift Mary gave to Him. Devil had no right to own it. Remember when you give your life to Jesus, devil can not take your life from God. You are a child of His forever more. Nothing can take you away from Jesus. No one can pluck what you gave to Him away. No matter the circumstance, no matter where you find yourself, no one could take you away from Jesus. Dear Heavenly Father help us to understand the devil has no right to try and take my life from you. I am a child of yours and I hold to the promise that I can not be plucked from your hand. In Jesus precious name, Amen. http://www.turtle30cshell.com _ |
