| Lesson 87: The Law of The Old That is Covered in the New Testament: He Not Here 4/19/2014 by turtle30c Matthew 28:2-10 KJV (2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. (3) His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: (4) And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. (5) And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. (6) He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. (7) And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. (8) And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. (9) And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. (10) Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me. Up from the grave Jesus arose this Resurrection Sunday. Do you ever consider the text and why Matthew might be the only one that told the story of the earthquake. It would have been recorded for both the Jews and legal law, two groups that would of wanted detail. Detail once gotten would have been hushed by the leaders trying to destroy the knowledge of the truth that would spread concerning Jesus. No doubt they were afraid that this power would destroy them. Yet even the high priest got saved because of seeing Jesus. The question first was how was the woman going to move a stone. One woman would of asked the soldier to help move it. Yet the soldiers were in shock by the earthquake and the empty tomb, when the stone rolled away and there sat upon the stone an angel of the Lord in all of God’s glorious light surrounding him, saying he not here. Imagine those words He not here. Would you have believed those words He not here, if you had not witnessed the earthquake. The women were told by the angel to go quickly and tell the disciples but one had lagged behind. Yet Jesus was seen by all the women for he stood in the path of those leaving to tell the disciples. Yet Mary remained at the tomb. Yet Mary Magdalene would weep crying alone not understanding where her Lord was. Mary of Bethany had witnessed her own brother’s resurrection and knew that they angel spoke was true. The mother Mary would have seen enough miracles to know too. Yet Mary Magdalene understood not according to John 20. How the stories of the tomb not always matching, but when examining the witness own accounts with Jesus and what they understood, might change how different stories were told. For Mary Magdalene would of known of forgiveness but not necessarily had witnessed many miracles, that why she hung back, not because a lack of faith, but not fully comprehending the event before her eyes. Yet she would witness to the knowledge of the ascension to the Father. Of course because Mary Magdalene was a known adulteress, her account of seeing Jesus would have been less believable, but all the women seen Jesus on their way to tell the disciples. How exciting for those women who Jesus first appeared to, but the women would be saved through child birth and this was the child they were saved through His name being Jesus the Son of God. No He was not there but He still showed himself to the women so they might believe. Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the testimony of the woman, and first appearing to the woman. Help us to remember as women and men that we are all equal in Christ sight. In Jesus precious name, Amen. http://www.turtle30cshell.com _ |
