| Can You Reach God |
| Lesson Three: by turtle Has I was working on preparation of this study, I begin to wonder how this one would come together. For today we start with the tower of Babel and circle back around to Hebrews 1. Something to note in Hebrews 1 is the author is making it clear the deity of Christ and also His human quality and Lordship. Why we worship Christ. The tower Babel was built for one purpose to reach God meaning to make oneself equal to God or godlike. The people of Babel wanted to make themselves a name above other names. God then took and seen what man was doing and said lets confound the language. Let us make it so they can not communicate their plan. Man for centuries have wanted to be God. Or godlike. Genesis 11:3-7 KJV (3) And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. (4) And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. (5) And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. (6) And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. (7) Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. Now first Corinthians says God is not the author of confusion. 1 Corinthians 14:33 KJV (33) For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. How many times I have quoted this verse the past few months in my personal life. Reminding me when confusion comes it is not of God. However to defeat an enemy you destroy it by confusion. However if God is in it, it will stand. Satan fell because he tried to be God and tell Adam and Eve what to do. To reach God we need to humble ourselves before Him. Deuteronomy 8:1-2 KJV (1) All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers. (2) And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. Humbleness comes with being in the desert forty years. However your desert term might not ever be forty years it might be shorter. It has to do with obedience to God in my opinion. Sometimes it takes longer for some to learn to obey God and others know how to immediately. I regret sin, but I do not regret forty years of learning about life or learning things about this world. However Israel went through periods of Idolatry in the wilderness. God set up stumbling blocks to test His people. One of the biggest and well known stumbling block is the serpent pole. Looking at the serpent pole would be healed. The serpent pole was set up by Moses through God leading. It was to test his people to see if they believe in Him. Numbers 21:7-9 KJV (7) Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. (8) And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. (9) And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. 2 Kings 18:3-5 KJV (3) And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did. (4) He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan. (5) He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him. What God sits up man messes up. The pole became idol. God never said to burn incense to it. They never looked back to know why the serpent was set up. Now with this said, Lets us go to John 3:16. John 3:14-18 KJV (14) And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: (15) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 8:28-29 KJV (28) Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. (29) And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. Many people say look at the old rugged cross. No God said to look at His Son. We are to believe in His Son. Now Hebrews !:6 goes even further with this thought. Hebrews 1:6-7 KJV (6) And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. (7) And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. God told the angels to worship Jesus and in Luke 2 the angel went and told the shepherd of the birth of Christ sing glory to God in the Highest. Remember the word God here is Theos in the Greek meaning the Triune Godhead. One God in three person’s. Now let us look at a few more verses. Hebrews 1:8-9 KJV (8) But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. (9) Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. In the verses about God is speaking to His Son and calling Him God. Speaking that His kingdom is one of righteousness. Meaning a kingdom of the law or correctness. Christ is truth. John 1:17 KJV (17) For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. John 14:6 KJV (6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Where lawlessness abounds grace and truth will win. Jesus is needed when their is corruption. Judgment will come. Many that fall away from the truth of the gospel are falling away from the law of God and are choosing anarchy instead. The Law of God is the word of God and the Word of God is Jesus. When we loose Jesus from our society we are loosing the law of God. We are to believe in Jesus, He came and died and rose again. He died for our transgressions and our transgressions are known to us as sin. Our sin our lawlessness. Yet God loved us enough to teach us about the law of God through His Son Jesus. Who is the word that became flesh. |
