Lesson 18: The Law Of The Old That Is Covered In
the New Testament:
Court Judge

Matthew 5:25 KJV
(25)  Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the
way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the
judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast
into prison.

Do you agree with your enemy to protect yourself or do you
stand up and fight. Some things are simple to solve and other
things are taken to court. Yet it is far better not to land up in
court. Most people today agree court is costly, despite if you
are in the right or wrong there are always court fees. The other
day we talked about bearing false witness in court and the
wrath of government that would come against you if you bore
false witness.

The verses that precede this verse had to do with having issue
with your brother and offering gifts to God without straitening
out the problem. God requires a pure heart and not one mucked
by the sins of the world. If we have not forgiven and worked out
our difference with our brethren how then can we worship God.
Yet Jesus is clearer it better to agree with one adversary then
to go to court. This is true, court cost money, yet in Jewish
tradition if one was found in the wrong the courts would have
the law of eye for eye and tooth for a tooth. This law of eye for
eye was never meant to be done outside the court system. In
other words difference were to be worked out before the court.
Some type of agreement and if nothing else forgiveness.
Sometimes it better to forgive your enemy to compromise then
to fight. One has to understand what compromise is about.
What agreement is about. Example of what going on across our
country on the gay marriage issue.

What is the gay marriage about, allowing same sex couples
having same legal rights of couples to take care of who they
consider their partner with health insurance. Allowing them legal
rights common to strait couples. Issue that many Christians
especially fundamentalist disagree with. Yet legally their
declaration of gay rights many are siding with because they
desire to keep their own freedom. Sin is our enemy, Sin is the
enemy of God. To obey the enemy causes separation from
God and God provided a way to bridge the separation from
consequence of sin that leads to death through Christ Jesus.
The breaking of his word. All sinned and fall short of the glory of
God. Not one worthy to enter the kingdom of heaven. Without
sacrificing of God’s word no one would be good enough to enter
the kingdom of God. The flames of hell would lick us all. Yet
belief in Jesus would be a requirement. God never declared one
could get in without belief. Yet even the unbeliever will stand
before the throne of God before being cast out.

Do you allow God to break His word that we all taste death or
can Jesus come back anytime His Father says go and set my
people free? The other day I was listening to a prophesy
concerning the persecution of the Christian is coming and for
some that time is now. Do we use the freedom of gay rights as
avenue to establish our own freedom of the right to believe as
we do and agree with our enemy, so our rights will not be
provoked, or do we fight against it and destroy sin of
homosexuality from our land. Do we invoke the freedom of
religion in our schools in areas that most  are Christian. Allowing
Bible reading back in. Or do we allow Bible not to be taught to
allow children that may never hear the testimony of Jesus, a
chance to hear through a conversation with our children. Do you
remove your Christian children from public school to take the
voice of Christ out of the public world? What is that Christian
thinking when they remove their kids because they do not agree
with education being taught. One needs to go back and say
how much voice are you giving of your faith. Are you hiding the
light of Jesus from the world.  It is like hiding rich kids from the
poor kids, never interacting never learning that people are
valued from all walks of life. If you never teach tolerance all you
teach is hate and bigotry without ever knowing it. I am not
against private schooling, some cases it is safer and better.
However in some cases it causing the world injustice.

To rise above the judgment of the law and settle outside the
courts. Is often hard. To settle and give in to issues within the
legal system seems unfair. To agree with your enemy to keep
from going to court does not seem right either. However
sometimes one has to give in like giving into one kids about
dessert after supper. You know going to your favorite ice cream
shop and ordering the biggest ice cream treat. Not a good idea
for every night but once in a while it is fine. Jesus tells us to
pray for our enemies and to bless them, because in so doing
you reap a reward in heaven and your enemies reap what they
sow as well.

Dear Heavenly Father to agree with our enemy does not mean
we do speak the truth of the Gospel. Help us always to settle
things outside the legal system when possible. In Jesus
precious name, Amen.
