Numbers 5:11-31 KJV
(11)  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
(12)  Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any
man's wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him,
(13)  And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes
of her husband, and be kept close, and she be defiled, and there
be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner;
(14)  And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous
of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come
upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:
(15)  Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he
shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of
barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense
thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial,
bringing iniquity to remembrance.
(16)  And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the
LORD:
(17)  And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel;
and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest
shall take, and put it into the water:
(18)  And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and
uncover the woman's head, and put the offering of memorial in
her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall
have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse:
(19)  And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto
the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not
gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband,
be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse:
(20)  But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy
husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with
thee beside thine husband:
(21)  Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of
cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD
make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the
LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell;
(22)  And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy
bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the
woman shall say, Amen, amen.
(23)  And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he
shall blot them out with the bitter water:
(24)  And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that
causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall
enter into her, and become bitter.
(25)  Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the
woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD,
and offer it upon the altar:
(26)  And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the
memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall
cause the woman to drink the water.
(27)  And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall
come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass
against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall
enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and
her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her
people.
(28)  And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she
shall be free, and shall conceive seed.
(29)  This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to
another instead of her husband, and is defiled;
(30)  Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be
jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD,
and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.
(31)  Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this
woman shall bear her iniquity.

Barnes Notes Commentary implies this custom of this curse on
women came from probably ancient Egypt. This was to protect
both the woman from the false accusation of adultery. This is still
a practice in Africa today according to the commentary. However
not sure how old this commentary is. One has to remember at
the time of Abraham when there was a famine Abraham had
gone to Egypt and their he deceived a king concerning His wife
who was also his half sister by having Sarah his wife tell them
she was his sister and not wife also. This caused a plague to
come to the king. Plague was lifted when Sarah was returned to
Abraham. Was this why the curse was established in Egypt, one
has to wonder how it was performed and carried out. Yet it was
Egyptian law that was then performed in the temple of God. Yet
if the woman was guilty of adultery she be taken from the temple
because she had defiled it by her sin of adultery.

This custom was a curse to women because a husband could do
this to a wife and legally divorce her. When Joseph consider
putting Mary mother of Jesus in the New Testament away this is
how this custom would have been performed. If Mary had gone
before the court of the temple this custom would have been done
to her. She would then be found out to be telling the truth of the
conception by the Holy Spirit. Joseph then would be taking Mary
to be His wife under these terms. If God had blessed through
immaculate  conception who would argue. Yet does it change
one view to know it was but dust in the water. A tactic use to
psychologically terrify a woman into confession, or to prove her
innocents, a tactic still used today in court by lawyers in theory.
Using something to induce a confession out of someone on the
witness stand. It is a old tactic. Yet because this water was said
to cause immediate results and probably did, much like in
countries of witchdoctors, no doubt a confession could be beaten
out of a women, unless she was innocent. A women caught in
adultery would be silence and put out of temple, as well as
divorced. A curse would be on the woman, but she would live
because her husband allowed it. He could have her publicly
stoned.

The question that has to be answer and no can truly answer it,
but scripture declares that if the woman privates rotted she was
guilty and it happened to her immediately. Only God could allow
this happen immediately. Only this type of change can not be
witchcraft unless psychological induce by being guilty and not
knowing the drink could not harm a person. Thus confession
were made and women were divorced from their husband. Jesus
broke the curse of adultery when he asked those surrounding a
women caught in adultery, who had sinned cast the first stone.
The women freed. The women freed because her accusers were
brought to shame. Both man and woman caught in adultery were
worthy of death by Jewish law. Yet Jesus set the women free
caught in adultery, the bondage those change broken, no longer
a curse or a reproach, but she was even told by Jesus to go and
sin no more.

Why could Jesus teach against the law of stoning because it was
Egyptian practice prior to Jewish culture. Something adopted
into their faith and practice. This is not a spiritual law but a
physical law. The act of spiritual adultery is forgivable by God.
Are you willing now to repent or be cursed by spiritual adultery to
God. Spiritual adultery is worship of idols or putting other things
before God.

Dear Heavenly Father free those in spiritual adultery today from
a yoke of bondage of sin. May they truly find the saving grace
through Christ Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
