| Lesson 57: The Law Of The Old Testament That Is Covered In The New Testament: Children In Rebellion 3/20/2014 by turtle Exodus 20:12 KJV (12) Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. The mistake of children is often the rebellion as teens and adults. Yet sometimes it is a necessary evil in the Childs view. Teens talking about where they want to go and what they want to do, not always going in a good direction, or sneaking out the window at night to help a friend. If you were really helping someone your parents would let you out the front door. There is a point God said to obey your parents. Parents often say if you under my roof you better do as I say, never thinking that might be the push for a teen or young adult to leave, because they desires freedom. I left home when in college, ran off and got married. Married not because I had to, but because simply I was madly in love. After almost 25 years I guess I will work toward another 25 years. There is a point my rebellion years were mild compare to many young people, I chose when at home to do as my folks said until I walked out the door the final time. However I can not say I always respected my parents. No child respects their parents all the time. No child gets it right all the time. No child understands what they put their parents through until they have children. Though I babysat and watched my nieces and nephews grow up into adulthood, and even stayed with two for a short time, it is still not the same bond as a child and parent. After all one does remember time of peace of early years with parents in a normal home, and fighting and playing with sibling. To remember to reflect to live and continue seeing the next generation make similar mistakes only to think they themselves are the only one to go through it, tell they get a wide eyed view of the world around them and know themselves that everyone is similar and make similar choice unless they are in some form of rebellion, whether it be against God, family or the law. We all go through periods of confusion, frustration and not understanding why something might not be good for us. It like jumping out of a plane, if your parachute opens then you will enjoy the ride to the ground. But if your pull the cord and for some reason it fails you got one more cord to pull. And if that fails you going to find out what a pancake feels like when you flip it and it lands back into the frying pan. Pain alone would be excruciating. So it is when we jump into rebellion pain of those years can be excruciating even in memory. Depending if the safety cord of home was in place or not. God said to honor Him and your parents. God said to obey Him first. Yet we first learn to obey our parents or guardians. We first learn to obey our teachers. We first learn to obey those in authority over us, to keep peace, or our behinds from being beaten with a switch. Today kids are given time outs which works well with little ones, but not teens. Taking the television, cell phone seems to work better for them. And yet taking responsibility for actions seem inline with the adult world. Yet God grace allows for our mistakes. Yet his correction when we get out of line is swift and sometimes long suffering, till we get in line with him. We become models of our parents because of their correction, doing thing as they would have done, unless we find a easier way of doing something. Then those things we change, because of our ability to choose. Are we seeking to be more like Jesus to be more like our heavenly Father, only to remember we are not God, but we desire to have that same mercy and grace that He did for all of humanity. Think about yourself growing in faith and in Christ likeness, what it truly means. It should not be idle words. Dear Heavenly Father thank you first for giving us the ability to imitate are parents and leaders, then the ability to expand beyond those borders to be more like you. In Jesus precious name, Amen. http://www.turtle30cshell.com _ |
