Exodus 20:8-11 KJV
(8)  Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
(9)  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
(10)  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it
thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy
manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger
that is within thy gates:
(11)  For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea,
and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the
LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. The Sabbath Day is
probably on of least commands kept. In Jewish tradition it was from
Sun down to Sun down starting on Friday going to Saturday. No one
was a lot to work or attend to other things that required labor. Many
people today because of work can not keep the traditional Sabbath
day for Christians it is Sunday the first day of the week. For Jews
and some others it is on Saturday even still today. How important is
this command in today’s world. Can one substitute another day to
honor in place when one required to work? First of all it is going
against tradition to work on the Sabbath, but in truth if you eat in
restaurant on Sunday or go to a store you encouraging working
places to be open on Sunday. Most of us that run in a store on
Sunday or eating establishment think little about this fact. I am just
as guilty as the next. Is it out of convenience perhaps, because one
does not make an extra trip into town to shop because of high gas
prices. Yet none of these things justify not keeping a day of rest.

The Sabbath day was kept by tradition as a day of meditation and
rest from work. Yet people that work on this day must make a
choice to either never keep it or use another day as their Sabbath.
Does God mind? Will considering one is to pray without ceasing,
have hymns and praises on their lips all the time, then I do not think
God necessarily objects from you resting on another day. However
fellowship is needed. Fellowship can be found in small group Bible
Studies, another worship day like Wednesday night prayer meeting,
or some other church meeting during the week. Morning prayer
breakfast works as well. Some churches that are strict will want a
person to keep the Sabbath on Sunday, larger churches with more
programs will understand your ability not to keep all services. In fact
they still might rather see you keep Sunday, but sometimes it is
impossible.

God said to keep Sabbath and keep it holy. To not work, to not
labor but to rest. To break the Sabbath is going against the
traditions that God laid out from the beginning when the seventh day
came He rested from all his labor. To rest means to enjoy the
works or fruit of labor and to take time away from work. It is
example to us. It is a reminder what we should be doing by keeping
the law of God for the Sabbath. It reminds us to obey God. To
obey at a minimum the laws God first established. It saying Lord I
submit to your way verses untraditional ways. My suggestion if
caught in a dilemma, is pray on the issue. Jesus did not object to his
disciples eating corn on the Sabbath.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to keep your ways in Jesus precious
name, Amen.
