| Lesson 59: The Law Of The Old Testament That Is Covered In The New Testament: Non Effect 3/22/2014 by turtle: Matthew 15:1-6 KJV (1) Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, (2) Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. (3) But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? (4) For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. (5) But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; (6) And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. The confusion of man in understanding the ways of God. No one understands everything God teaches all at one time. Parents that bring their children to wrath to the point of cursing, are they not just as guilty. Yet are people allowed to make a mistake? Is God talking about children that in general curse their parents or something concerning the establish law of God or establish law from the beginning. We know Mosaic consider disrespect worthy of death. Do not be foolish this morning and misinterpret what Christ speaks. If parents have the ability to forgive or a child has the ability to forgive then it is forgiven. As humans we have that option to forgive. We have that option to try and not remember. If God taught compassion and love why did Jesus not teach it here. Perhaps to make a point with the leaders. Example Eli the priest and prophet of the time of Samuel had two unruly sons, yet he did not kill them. Yet they were under Mosaic law. They were considered part of the priesthood by natural birth. Eli chose mercy but that was not God’s way. If man law supercedes God’s law in how we live on earth, then we must abide by those rules. Death comes eventually if one continues in evil ways. I wonder how many times Eli prayed for his wicked son to change. For something to change in their life. To show mercy is greater then to show revenge. Yet Christ taught the law of Moses and the law of God. If a gift was given to pardon the transgression then the error was pardoned. Yet why is a gift even needed it a form of making up. It a form of saying I sorry with love. It a form grace exchanged. Jesus taught mercy. There is old saying that laws are made to be broken. Yet were is mercy. How many viewers no someone who drinks publicly, or even does drugs. Did you know there are ordinances for drugs and alcohol. Yet does the law lock everyone up? Do you report all the crimes you see? Where is the line in your life? How many people did your sin effect? How many people in the future will copy your sin? Adam sinned and think how many people his sin effect and they were not even born yet. Being pardon is by grace. Showing compassion is by grace. Was it passion for God to exile Cain from him or Adam and Eve? No of course not, but God never left them. Cain ancestors knew the wrath of God. Yet God mercy was to mark Cain so others would not harm him. God marked him. He just was not allowed in God’s presence anymore. Ham children cursed but ushered in by the grace of God, because they were of the gentile line, the nation Jesus came to save to teach the mercy of God too. Not only to the Jews, but the Gentiles. How great is the mercy of God with or without a gift. Yet God gave a gift of His Son because He loved us and desired that non should perish but have everlasting life. The gift covering the sin. Jesus and God demonstrated mercy and forgiveness until it reached the height of heaven. Dear Heavenly Father may your grace and mercy reign today and forever in the lives of your people that seek not to revenge but to demonstrate mercy and grace. In Jesus precious name, Amen. http://www.turtle30cshell.com _ |
