| Lesson 66: The Law Of The Old Testament That Is Covered In The New Testament: Preparation 3/29/2014 by turtle Exodus 16:22-30 KJV (22) And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. (23) And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. (24) And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein. (25) And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field. (26) Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none. (27) And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. (28) And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? (29) See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. (30) So the people rested on the seventh day. Most people make preparation before going to sleep at night. They put on their night clothes, brush their teeth, shower, and find those comfy bedroom slippers if they have them. How many prepare for Sabbath day. How many have leftovers ready to pop into the oven for dinner, breakfast and lunch. The extent God instruction were for rest seems obsessive, but think about it, this was God’s instruction not man. Israel was told to pick up manna every morning, except the day before the Sabbath and they were to pick up enough for two days. Now the odd part of this is that manna picked would spoil except on Saturday, if kept two days. A few people even tested what the Lord said and found worms in their food on any day except on the day that was said to gather two days worth. Women he was telling us to rest too, not just the men. Do we today still prepare for the Sabbath the same way we prepare to go to bed or start our day. Do we make plans for our meals. No one does this perfectly, but Israel had no choice. At least the manna tasted as sweet as honey, for they would eat this for a time, until they complained and Lord sent quail for meat from heaven. Are we blind to God’s provision. Are we willing to obey God with what He provides for us or do we have to clean up a nasty bowl of manna and go without a few times to get the point to obey God’s instruction. Did your parents ever tell you to clean your plate, there was starving children all over the world that be glad to have your leftovers. Have you even been told to eat what set before you. Yet God’s instruction was to give everyone a day of rest and six days of work. Most bosses today give you at least one days off. Most that only get one day use it for their own personal chores around their home and shopping, it not a day of rest but work. Yet sometimes even that one day off is a chance to get the rest of the week sort out. If you get two or three days off, then you have time to take one day for rest. Rest for weary, rest for the worker, and rest because God said so. God says it time to rest, and a time to work. God is teaching his people discipline. Teaching them responsibility on the road to the promise land. Most people can take time to enjoy God’s word at least once a day, and others more. Yet it takes discipline to study God’s word, even when you going through a period of a drought. Manna from heaven, God’s provision for Israel. The people seeing first hand God’s provision. God’s people would not let His people starve, but he did not give them feast of anything they wanted, only what was necessary for a daily supply. Is your daily supply being meet. Are you satisfied with His provision as well as His preparation for rest. Dear Heavenly Father as we look through scripture and find you teach us disciple for work, rest from our labor, and provision for our labor. Thank you providing our needs, not always our wants. In Jesus precious name, Amen. http://www.turtle30cshell.com _ |
