Mark 6:1-6 KJV
(1)  And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and
his disciples follow him.
(2)  And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the
synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From
whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is
given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his
hands?
(3)  Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James,
and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with
us? And they were offended at him.
(4)  But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in
his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
(5)  And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his
hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
(6)  And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round
about the villages, teaching.

Jesus’ observed the Sabbath the tradition since the first seventh day
of the very first week observed by God himself. Jesus was taken to
the temple as a boy and went and taught as a man. Yet not all
received His teachings, or received His ministry. One might wonder
why some would reject Christ especially with signs and wonders. I
think it kind of like I was in church yesterday, I was so exhausted that
I really wanted to take a nap like a small child might in church. As I
tried to listen to the sermon, my mind was to dazed to hear all that
was said. All I could think about was the need for a siesta. People
sitting on benches in the synagogue, slow to belief, loving the speech,
but yet asleep to the meaning of the words spoken. After all the
people were astonished by his speech and even question is this not
the carpenter’s son.

People surprise but not able to receive the truth, or the miracles
because their heart not in it. Their heart and ears hearing, but not
receiving as if they already asleep to the truth of the word of God
only because it was a carpenter Son. Just the imaginery of classifying
Jesus not worthy because of who He was, yet He is from a priestly
line as well as a kingly line. Knowing both the business and religious
world. An advantage one might say, yet they look an refuse to
receive based on their lack of understanding, because He was kin to
them. Had not the rumors of His conception circulated, did not people
believe? Yet their was no acceptance for in many eyes He was not of
the Holy Spirit but a bastard, a child conceived out of wedlock. There
eyes to heavy with sleep to see properly the truth of who He was.
Yet He kept and observed the Sabbath.

Jesus observance of the Sabbath is important to us as believers. It
denotes observance of godly ordinances of his time. Can a minister
of God fail to miss church? It can taint his ministry. Yet not
necessarily in today’s world. What is a ministers time consist of in
doing. Are they active in sharing the gospel with those that do not
know Christ? Is there a reason for nonobservance of the Sabbath? Is
health an issue. Many minister in nursing homes are not in church on
Sunday, yet they still speak the truth of Jesus. What does this say.
We need to be aware of what we speak and what do not have
knowledge of. Yet Jesus observed the law, no matter where He was.
Yet the religious people often frowned when He did a miracle or when
He taught hoping to trap Him. Many people are called to ministry, but
because of work outside of ministry, they can not observe all religious
customs. Does this make them less a Christian of course not. Does
this make them less a witness for Jesus, only if they choose not to be.

It is time we lay customs aside and observe them when we can, but
not make them a rule to a point it cuts people off and out of the
church. Some feeling these people are unsaved, when truly their
heart is as commit as they day they found Jesus. To follow in Christ
footsteps is to follow the Mosaic law, yet our world around us does
not observe the Sabbath. I will be sharing why Christian observe the
Sabbath on Sunday and not on Saturday. There are things that are
customs of our faith, and to gain respect of religious community they
often must be follow. Yet it obvious it did not work In Christ day, and
it does not work in our day.

Dear Heavenly Father as your children observe a time of rest, despite
the day, let us remember the call to share the Gospel, that our
salvation is not based on traditions, but on faith in Christ Jesus. In
Jesus precious name, Amen.
