| The Holy Spirit |
| Part Thirteen: by turtle Though signs and wonders like in Acts 2 can be signs of the presents of the filling of the Holy Spirit there is more to it. Belief is a important part of being filled. Each story we have looked at one key factor remains is belief. In order to believe In Acts 2 the people seen the works of God as well as heard the works of God. They heard tongues in their own language, they heard the wonderful works of God. Acts 2:28-33 KJV (28) Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. (29) Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. (30) Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; (31) He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. (32) This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. (33) Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Peter is preaching here in the verse above. First Peter praises the Lord for showing Him the way of life. What joy we should have at the knowledge of knowing Jesus came and died for us and did not leave us comfort less, but gave us the Holy Spirit to indwell our hearts. Some churches feel that if people do not jump around they do not have the joy of the Lord. This is not true and those who see people jumping around and dancing think these people are nuts. What the truth. Are people who are still and seem emotionless and those that seem to be over emotional are they filled with the Holy Spirit. There be some today that will be perhaps so mad at me for speaking here. Joy or expression of joy of what the Lord has done is a normal response for some. It is like going to a football game and a touchdown is made, some sit has if nothing happened and others shout and cheer. Some go to a concert and shout and cheer and others are quiet. Both groups of people had a great time and enjoyed themselves at the two events or did they. Some people are more emotional. Some people cheer because everyone else is cheering and hollering, some are cheering because they really enjoying the concert. Some people that are silent are wondering when they will get to leave this boring concert, while others are really enjoying the music though they show little emotion. Point I am making using the football and a concert is that just because we see signs of enjoyment or non enjoyment does not mean one does not enjoy these things. Same in church. Those that cheer just because someone else is cheering is truly not worshipping the Lord. And those who are silent and think how soon will this be over is not worshipping the Lord. People have in the past thirty years or more have allowed Satan to deceive them in think that unless they feel something that the Lord is not present. First of all God is everywhere. Psalms 139:7-13 KJV (7) Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? (8) If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. (9) If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; (10) Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. (11) If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. (12) Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. (13) For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. Proverbs 15:3 KJV (3) The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. Jeremiah 23:23-24 KJV (23) Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? (24) Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD. If God is everywhere He is already present. Just because God is present does not mean He indwells you. To be indwelled by God is to have the knowledge of who He is and what He has done for us. To be indwelled is to have God presence in our very hearts, which happens when we believe. And if God indwells us we should have fruit in our lives. We have talked about before about bearing fruit and walking by the Spirit so I am not going to go over it again. Go back and reread if you need to. With that said emotionalism can be someone sitting in the pew acting as if they are listening as well as someone falling in the floor and doing it at there own will. It can be someone dancing or speaking in tongues because they think that is what is expected of them. Just like taking commune or singing hymns can be done with little effort. Unless these things are done in the worship to the Lord with your heart then it is not the Holy Spirit and it is you just doing it because you think you are suppose to. I would rather see twenty in church that are truly worshipping God then a thousand that are there to see a show. We must worship God in Spirit and in truth. God sees the heart. People can trick people, but people can not trick God. He knows the very heart and He knows if he is in your life. You know if you believe or not and you know if God indwells you whether you shout or not. Beware of those that will deceive you about God. Do not get caught in an emotional trap. It is okay to shout if it is from the heart in the form of worship and is not disruptive to the church you are in. It is okay to dance to the Lord if the church you are in won't freak out. It is also okay to be silent in a church that shows much emotion. It is also okay to express yourself in worship if it is not disruptive. Discord, strife, chaos and confusion is not of God. The only one you really fool is yourself. |
