Part Fourteen: by turtle
1 Timothy 1:13-15 KJV (13) Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. (14) And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. (15) This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Today there is a thing called demonology and though I am not an expert in this teaching or even well read on this subject there is something as a Christian I do know and understand. Satan can tempt a Christian, but can not possess a Christian. Will what does this have to do with the verses you posted above not a lot but a point is going to be made so bare with me. Paul at one time when he was called Saul did not believe in Jesus. In fact he persecuted Christians. He admits he spoke of Christ irreverently. At one time Paul did not work for the cause of Christ. He admits he did it ignorantly. Many make fun of Christ today. Many do it out of pure ignorance. One is either for Christ or against Christ. There is no in between.
Matthew 12:24-28 KJV (24) But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. (25) And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: (26) And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? (27) And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. (28) But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
Satan can not cast out Satan nor can he divide his house or it will crumble. Christians can not be controlled by Satan. The two do not go together in any format. Satan can try and knock us down but he can not possess us if we are believers. There are however people that work for Satan that masquerade as Christians. These people are known as wolves in sheep's clothing. They seek to cause chaos and discord in the church and that is their sole purpose. Christians can cause chaos and discord not meaning to because it is human nature. Part of being a Christian is learning to grow in unity with other believers, despite difference.
Unpardonable sin must be taken in reference to the surrounding verses. Actually the passage above parallels with the passage in Mark 3.
Mark 3:22-30 KJV (22) And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. (23) And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? (24) And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. (25) And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. (26) And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. (27) No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. (28) Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: (29) But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: (30) Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Some people speak about God in a demeaning manor out of ignorance like Paul did. Others are possessed by evil spirits and have no trouble in denouncing God. Another way to describe the situation is when we look at Cain in the Old testament. He was warned about sinning. He went ahead and sinned anyway. Paul had no knowledge of what He did was sin. Others know what they do and understand it is sin against God and rightly do not care this sin is unpardonable if done against the Holy Spirit.
