The Holy Spirit
Part Eight: by turtle

Well we have reached lesson eight. We have dealt with who the Holy Spirit speaks of, Who the Holy
Spirit is, The difference in the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of the Anti Christ, talked about the gifts of the
Spirit and there should be order, Spoken on the fruits of the antichrist as well as the fruit of the Spirit and
not least how to walk by the Spirit, in other words learning to walk in obedience.  A lot of information to
learn and not just learn but experience. As we continue with todays lesson we will be looking at fruit
bearing. If we walk by the Spirit we will bear fruit in due season. First let's refresh our memory what is
the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-26 KJV
(22)  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
(23)  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
(24)  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
(25)  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
(26)  Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

First thing I want to take notice of is a key word which is fruit and not fruits. Often people will say fruits
instead of fruit and I did in lesson six and have had to go and fix it. The Holy Spirit bears fruits but the
fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and
temperance. In other words what I am trying to say one fruit bearing all these qualities of the Spirit. There
is not many trees or vines but one bearing one type of fruit. Actually I heard this in a sermon last Sunday
and it really made sense. Sometimes we fail to look at key words to see if they are singular or plural. And
even fail to see the significant of the difference. Okay beside the word fruit being singular in the verse
how can you prove it is meant as singular, because often people say fruits.

John 15:1-5 KJV
(1)  I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
(2)  Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he
purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
(3)  Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
(4)  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no
more can ye, except ye abide in me.
(5)  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much
fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Keyword again in this passage fruit. Not fruits but fruit. If you are abiding in the vine you will bear fruit.
Not fruits. Meaning an orange tree will not bear apples. And blackberries bush will not bare pineapples.
So only one type of fruit is bared and that is the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The fruit God bares in us. Now
they way one bare fruit is by walking by the Spirit which was talked about last week. Or as in John 15
says by abiding in vine. The vine being Christ and God the Father being the gardener who prunes and cuts
and picks. Holy Spirit produces fruit. Wow the trinity represented in one passage again and again. Hold it
how do you know the Holy Spirit bares the fruit. I do not see that plainly there. You would be right, you
really need another passage to understand this.

1 Corinthians 3:1-7 KJV
(1)  And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in
Christ.
(2)  I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now
are ye able.
(3)  For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not
carnal, and walk as men?
(4)  For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
(5)  Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to
every man?
(6)  I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
(7)  So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

God gives the increase. And we know the fruit of the Spirit is bared by God, through who the Holy Spirit.
Often we think of our pastor baptized us or this person lead this person to Christ. No doubt God uses us
as part of the team to preach and to teach the gospel. To sow and to reap, but God gave the increase. We
are selves do not bare the actual fruit in our life. We might here someone brag look how many I lead to
Jesus. No doubt you might of helped in the process but without God I know that the individual did not
lead them to Him.

It is very obvious who is baring fruit when people are following the minister and not Christ. We live in an
era that many people follow the minister. If we look at past recent history of a good example David
Koresh, he bared fruit of himself and not of God. Jim Jones bared fruit of himself and not of God. People
followed both men to destruction, some followed out of ignorance and some really believed they were
doing the Lord's work not realizing that these men set themselves up as a god. Even in these strange
situations God is still able to make His word clear. People can not remain in groups like this for long if
God is the one baring the fruit. For God's word speaks loud and clear.

Revelation 3:20 KJV
(20)  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in
to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Who stands at the hearts door and knock? Christ does. Not the minister, not a Christian, but Christ does.
He knocks and if we let Him in he rules in our hearts.

1 Thessalonians 2:12-13 KJV
(12)  That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
(13)  For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God
which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which
effectually worketh also in you that believe.

When you received the word of God, not the word of men, but word of God. When one accepts Christ's
He accepts God's word.

1 Peter 2:9 KJV
(9)  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should
shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

God calls man. We are chosen and called. Everyone has a choice whether to believe or not to believe. It
is a free choice. When we believe we are baptized into Jesus. We are baptized into his death  and raised
up from death by the Father into a glorious new life.

Romans 6:3-6 KJV
(3)  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
(4)  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the
dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
(5)  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his
resurrection:
(6)  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that
henceforth we should not serve sin.

And now that we are saved we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise.

Ephesians 1:13 KJV
(13)  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom
also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

I will stop here for today and continue on next week.
