The Holy Spirit
Part Nine: The Holy Spirit

I am sorry I cut the lesson sort of short last week, but I need time to think and pray. Yes even I
have to meditate on what I write down sometimes and then regroup for the next lesson. I do not
want to leave anything important out or forget to emphasize something. Walking by the Spirit is
walking in God's love and walking in faith, joy, hope, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness,
and temperance. Demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit. Walking in all truth.

Last week I end the lesson with being called and sealed. To be called is to hear God calling you to
salvation to the hope of the Christian faith of eternal life with Christ Jesus. To be sealed as in this
verse:

Ephesians 1:13 KJV
(13)  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in
whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Is to be marked as a child of God. Marked as belong to Jesus. Some might go as far as saying
anointed or baptized, depending on how you define these words. If you define these words as
meaning consecrated then yes that would be correct. If you use the word baptize to represent the
dunking of one in water to purify you would still be consecrated. If you refer to baptism as being
dunk in symbolic to Christ death and resurrection you would be correct but it would be representing
of the purification process. Anointing represents the purification process but to anoint someone or
something would be to designate it for a particular use or to consecrate it.  Then you have one more
word to throw in the mix of words meaning similar yet being used a little differently would be
circumcision of the heart. God purifying your heart so He is the center of your life.

So what does it mean to consecrate, it means to baptize, to seal, to anoint, to purify and to
circumcise, but most of all to separate for a purpose. And most or not all churches use either all or
some of these words to explain the anointing, being sealed, being consecrated, being purified,
baptized, or being circumcised. God establish Christians as a separate group of people from the rest
of the world because we believe in Him and accept the salvation message.

1 Peter 2:9 KJV
(9)  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye
should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

And not only has he sealed, marked, anointed, baptized, circumcised, purified, anointed, etc, but we
are called by God to a royal priesthood, to be a holy nation, and a peculiar people. We are to be
different. Oh how for several years I did not want to be different and yet I  did not realize God
called me to be different. I had an internal struggle of desiring to live a life for God and being like the
rest of the world. It is almost like those desiring to be popular and to be a part of the crowd but
always looking from the outside in. I desire to belong to the world because I did not see the problem,
because I had grown up knowing Christ from an early age. I allowed Satan to deceive me that belong
or fitting into the ways of the world was not wrong. I allow peer pressure to influence me. I often
now think of the story of the prodigal son. He desire to party and live it up. He new what his father
had to offer and he also seen the world and wanted to know what it was like. So He said let me have
what is due me and let me go on my adventure. Not knowing the ways of the world can lead to
destruction. When the son had had enough he looked back to his old life. He seen he had everything
that was truly important so he went back and asked his father for forgiveness. Before the son could
get his words out the father was embracing him. When God embrace you knowing can separate you
from His love.

Romans 8:35-39 KJV
(35)  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or
famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
(36)  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the
slaughter.
(37)  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
(38)  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor
things present, nor things to come,
(39)  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of
God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

To fully understand God's love for us is hard to even grasp. He calls us to be separate to be a holy
people and then He tells us nothing can separate us from His love. So many people have said that
there faith sometimes has grown quite thin but nothing took their faith completely away. We look at
the trial Job went through and yet he stood the test because of God's love for him and is
understanding that God loved him even though what was happening did not make sense.

Okay I get it God loves me and as called me to be different, to be holy, peculiar and to a royal
priesthood. How can I become holy when it seems I do exactly what I should not do. I understand
that Christ purifies us from sin.

1 John 1:7-10 KJV
(7)  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
(8)  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
(9)  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
(10)  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

We must walk in light and have fellowship one with another. We must recognize that we do sin.
Recognize Christ purifies us from sin if we confess them.

Okay I did that but now what? How can I live this life pleasing to God you talk about. How can I do
it. I am still human. That is where the Holy Spirit comes in.

Hebrews 10:14-17 KJV
(14)  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
(15)  Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
(16)  This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my
laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
(17)  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

He promised to put the law in our hearts. What law in our hearts. The law of love. He puts the Holy
Spirit in our hearts so that we are able to walk in truth. The Holy Spirit corrects us when we sin.
Take a look at these verses.

Hebrews 12:5-14 KJV
(5)  And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son,
despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
(6)  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
(7)  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father
chasteneth not?
(8)  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
(9)  Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence:
shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
(10)  For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that
we might be partakers of his holiness.
(11)  Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward
it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
(12)  Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
(13)  And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let
it rather be healed.
(14)  Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

God corrects those He loves. Not all accept his correction though. Not all wish to follow God. But if
we love God we will take his correction, because it is perfecting us. It is making us holy. We should
not be sadden by this but glad. Glad he cares enough for us to correct us when we fail him. He does
expect us to be perfect but willing to take correction for our mistakes. Hardest thing to do sometimes
is take correction. I do not mind hearing negative comments because sometimes it makes me think,
other times it makes me angry. But learning to take the negative with the pats on the back is
necessary for all Christians.

How does God correct me, one might wonder? We must remember from our first lesson this verse.

John 14:26 KJV
(26)  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall
teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Wow, God will send the comforter, the Holy Spirit in Christ name. He will teach us all things and
bring all things to remembrance. The Holy Spirit is our teacher. He will correct you when you do
wrong as well as give you a pat on the back when you do good.

We receive the Holy Spirit when we get saved. Take a look at this verse and the promise of the Holy
Spirit as teacher.

1 John 2:27 KJV
(27)  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man
teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even
as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

We receive the anointing, baptism, and circumcision when we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. He
purifies us, cleans us as we consecrate or dedicate our life to him. When we  believe. The Devil
believes and trembles but does not live a life dedicated to God that is why he will spend eternity in
hell. We chose whether to believe in Jesus and whether to dedicate our life to doing the will of God.
It is a free choice, but for those that dedicate their life to God it is one full of promise and as will as
guidance from the Lord.

Next week we will look at the word to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
