Power of The Word

Matthew 8:5-13 KJV
(5)  And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came
unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
(6)  And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy,
grievously tormented.
(7)  And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
(8)  The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that
thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and
my servant shall be healed.
(9)  For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and
I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he
cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
(10)  When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that
followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no,
not in Israel.
(11)  And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and
west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in
the kingdom of heaven.
(12)  But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer
darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
(13)  And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou
hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed
in the selfsame hour.

Our word has value, but not the value of Jesus’ Word. Our word
should mean something. If we are in charge of something our word
only has value if we do what we say we would do. Our word must
go down the ranks of what we are over as being truth of what we
will do. A policy set forth to mandate truth. Our President changing
his mind about healthcare issues makes him look unreasonable and
yet his plan had never been put out there to see if it would ever
work. That is defense of one’s word or policy that does not work.
Yet people will remember this attempt by the democratic party as
having to many problems as their last atttempt. That is the problem
of today’s society, our word and how it effects more then just one
or two people being only an experiment and not exact science.

With Jesus there is but one health care plan and that was miracles
seen in His day, yet without Him walking among us we do not see
these miracles but at a random rate. Some non healings having to
do with a lack of faith or sin and other healing not coming because
it was not God’s timing. Yet everyone that was brought to Jesus
while He walked the earth was healed. Even the dead rose again.
One healing even took two attempts to be healed from blindness.
Yet even so each healing demonstration of faith, or testimony of
Jesus’ power and authority over diseases. Each act of healing
given by the Word of God.

This Centurion knew the value of his own word and knew from
hearing and seeing the power of Jesus that all Jesus needed to do
was speak and it would be accomplished. Jesus was a busy man
and so was this centurion. It was almost as if he said let us not
take hours to get to my house, but just speak the word and I know
it will be accomplished, you have much work to do. If you give me
your word you will heal my servant I will believe you and go. Jesus
used this healing as a testimony of faith. For this man believed
upon seeing, and upon hearing and knew the possibility for his
servant.

If we understand the possibility why are we not praying for our
friends and family more urgently concerning health issues. Why are
we complacent in our faith. Yet if we have experienced God’s
power we know the possibility. If we know the possibility we have
to exercise our faith in hope and believing. It is not enough to just
hope, but we must claim the impossible, because of who Jesus is.
Knowing if we have repented we are forgiven, if God heals it is
because it is His timing and if we approach the throne in prayer it
will be according to His will. Yet God’s healing power is not always
demonstrated every day as it was in Christ time, because one we
fail to believe His word, we fail to grasp the possibility, we fail to
understanding eternal healing is something better then being risen
again off the bed leading to physical death to walk in this world.

A minister’s wife past away this week that I know, and with all the
prayers going up, God still decided to take her home to be with the
Lord. Though most understand it was God’s timing, there always
the wonder why now for she to minister to others. Yet God’s timing
is not known to us or his purpose in everything He does. Yet God
has a reason for this. We praise God that one she suffered no
longer then what she did. May she rest in peace in the arms of
God.

The ministers of faith struggle much like we do, and when we see
this soldier going to Jesus we ask why Lord, when not in all
circumstances the power healing not happen. Why when we
believe all things are possible does God not heal when we ask,
and then the answer is clear it not our authority or our command,
but the command of God. May it never be thought healing comes
by man but only of God. Let ministers ever get complacent in their
authority given by God to preach, but power not ours to command,
but we are a hand extended to do the work of God. May His
authority and power reign as His word was so clearly
demonstrated to this centurion.

Dear Heavenly Father, may your grace come to us through your
Word, knowing your power is not ours to control, but yours and
that while you were among us your power fully was demonstrated
to give us hope as a believer of what you can and will do in our life
according to your will. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
