| Women in the Bible |
| Lesson Two: by turtle Now it time for lesson two to begin about women in the church. Simple fact the church is often implied as being the bride of Christ. Now if the church is the bride that means everyone in the church is a woman. Not physically mind you but Christ is our husband. Husband meaning our Shepherd, our Lord, and our King. There is many titles that can be used. Now we are going to discuss women in the church in the since of women in the Bible, but men need to listen as well. See here is the problem, men often feel they are exempt from a Women’s Bible Study and women are exempt from a Men’s Bible Study. And of course that is exactly what the church does. Yet even I admit there are Bible Studies geared for men and women this one is not. I hope to discuss both sides of the coin, so to speak and yet try to bring us all into unity. 1 Corinthians 14:33-40 KJV (33) For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. (34) Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. (35) And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. (36) What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? (37) If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. (38) But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. (39) Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. (40) Let all things be done decently and in order. In this passage women are not to speak in church. Yet if one continues passed the women part one will see men’s ignorance is addressed too. Paul was not against women prophesying in the church. He was against confusion in the church. Confusion caused by tail bearing, gossip, strife, bickering and so forth. Often when it comes to Spiritual matters such as doctrinal differences no one can ever agree solely with another. It is okay to disagree on some issues, but they really should be discussed at home and prayed over. Often scribes and priest discussed doctrinal issues in the temple. This passage in I Corinthians 14 was about confusion in the church. Women would of been out of order to speak to a priest about doctrinal issues in the Jewish community, but there was nothing wrong with them edifying( building up) the church. Luke 2:36-38 KJV (36) And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; (37) And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. (38) And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. Acts 21:8-10 KJV (8) And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. (9) And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. (10) And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. Acts 2:17-18 KJV (17) And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: (18) And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: So simply the fact remains for edification of the church prophesy can be spoken. Now prophesy is not fortune telling. In fact it is about edification and speaking words that will help in building up the church. Sometimes the Lord lays on someone heart a warning and other times it is just a simple message to the church that strengthen those that are born again. Prophesying can be preaching and teaching. The simple fact still remains. Confess and idle debate should be prayed over an discussed privately. Matthew 15:8-9 KJV (8) This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. (9) But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 KJV (1) Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (2) Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Hebrews 13:9 KJV (9) Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. We are to worry not so much about doctrines but about the milk of the word. 1 Peter 2:1-5 KJV (1) Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, (2) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: (3) If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. (4) To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, (5) Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. |
