Women in the Bible
Lesson Forty-three: by turtle

Women trying to conceive is often a struggle. Isaac worried maybe most about Rebecca and her not
having children. Often the husband is struggles just like woman do it the hurt and longing for children.
There passion to have a son is often great, but they would normally be satisfied with a daughter as
well. A child to carry on the family bloodline. To carry that gene or trait on in the world. These desire
are heart felt by men and woman alike. Rebecca was barren and Isaac long for his wife to conceive.
He began to seek the Lord, and God blessed Isaac and Rebecca conceived.

Genesis 25:20-21 KJV
(20)  And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian
of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.
(21)  And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was
intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

The thought of a new baby for any family is exciting, but to learn you are going to have twins is a
double whammy. Some wonder if they can afford two babies. What is interesting about this story is
Rebecca kind of got scared, she never been pregnant and thought something was wrong inside her. No
doubt she her woman talk about birthing babies. It would of been a discussion for most young woman.
There be a talk of death in child bearing. A talk of trouble woman have. Rebecca knew in her heart
the kicking was not normal from all the tales she had heard. Rebecca began to pray about this.

Genesis 25:22-24 KJV
(22)  And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she
went to enquire of the LORD.
(23)  And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be
separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder
shall serve the younger.
(24)  And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

God spoke to Rebecca when she prayed and told her she would have twins and that they would be
two nations, and these two nations would be unique. That the older would serve the younger. This is
not tradition. The younger always served the older. Actually if you think about it this is what is
thought, but often older siblings care for their younger ones.

What catches me off guard is the faith of Rebecca to take The Lord Jehovah word for fact. The word
Lord in Hebrew is Jehovah. The national name of God in Israel. She did not inquire of some fortune
teller or doctor to know the truth. However woman today go and have ultrasound and can know many
things about the fetus before it is born. They often can tell the sex of the infant if he/she is turned
right. The fact Rebecca knew from God before her boys were born that they would be boys and twins
is only known by God. To know how the story for her two boys would turn out in life is even more
amazing. I wonder why do we question God when He speaks to our hearts. Rebecca shows faith and
takes God at his word.

Genesis 25:25-27 KJV
(25)  And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.
(26)  And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was
called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
(27)  And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain
man, dwelling in tents.

Jacob and Esau had different skills. Their talents went in different directions. Jacob love to grow and
gather food, and Esau loved to hunt. Jacob would of hung out with is mother for it was not
uncommon for woman to plant a garden. Esau and Isaac got along well for Esau loved to hunt and it
was something done together. Often we label rolls in the family as well as the sex of people. Jacob was
younger so He stayed close to home. In today’s society you can be almost anything you want to be.
Sometimes you break traditions doing so and it causes a stir.

Jacob and Esau did not get along well. Apparently they often barter for things they wanted instead of
just out right sharing. Esau would have trouble hunting one day. Would not be able to find anything to
eat and would come and ask Jacob for a bowl vegetable soup. Esau was so hungry he did not think
about what he said. He told Jacob he give him anything he ask for, just to have a bowl to eat. Jacob
being cunning took advantage of Esau and asked for his birthright. Birthright is something very special
and you do not give up. It is blessing handed down from you father. Isaac blessing to his eldest son
would be the blessing that God had given him and his father Abraham. That they would be the Fathers
of a great nation.

Genesis 25:28-34 KJV
(28)  And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.
(29)  And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:
(30)  And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint:
therefore was his name called Edom.
(31)  And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.
(32)  And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
(33)  And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto
Jacob.
(34)  Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and
went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

Esau barter would cost him his blessing. Esau value of the blessing was not worth more then a pot of
soup to him. His care about God and the blessing was not that great. The value was not good. Was
Esau upset about the prophecy about his birth.

Genesis 25:23 KJV
(23)  And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be
separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder
shall serve the younger.

Did something else cause Esau not to have fear of the Lord and the blessing of God in his life. The
Bible does not say. Yet the Bible does enlighten us to some other scripture.

Malachi 1:2-3 KJV
(2)  I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau
Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,
(3)  And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

Romans 9:12-16 KJV
(12)  It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
(13)  As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
(14)  What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
(15)  For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion
on whom I will have compassion.
(16)  So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

God reject Esau because he sold his birthright. God knew Esau heart we do not. To sell a treasure for
less then what it is worth is a loss. I know I will not have children probably. Yet one must realize
something if I do not have anyone to hand something to then what. I would want my family to keep
there things and traditions in the family. I would not want it passed to strangers. Family heirlooms and
blessings are to be treasured. The blessings of God is can not be traded or barter for. One either
accepts or rejects God. Esau rejected God. That why God hated Esau.

Hebrews 12:16-17 KJV
(16)  Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his
birthright.
(17)  For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected:
for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Do you reject God? Do you reject His plan of salvation for sin? Do you reject God? Only ou know in
your heart if you do. Often times your actions speaks louder then words. Accept Jesus today, do not
reject God’s blessing in your life.
