Lesson 26: by turtle
John 10:19-30 KJV 19 There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. 20 And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? 21 Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind? 22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. 24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and my Father are one.
The Jews continue to argue if Jesus is the Christ or not or if he has a devil in Him. They had seen the miracles and seen a blind man healed yet they still doubted. Finally they asked Jesus to speak plainly if He is the Christ. Jesus tells them I told you but you believed not. How much more did Christ need to say for them to understand. Their hearts were harden to the truth of who He is. Christ makes it clear those that know Him knows who He is and He will give all that follow eternal life. Christ makes it clear that the sheep that hear were given by who the Father. And if God has given then they won't be taken away. Then Christ explains that He and His Father are one. Claiming to be God, yet they did not understand this.
John 10:31-39 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. 39 Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,
The Jews became angry with Jesus. The took up stones to kill him because He said he was God. Christ makes them say why they were fixing to try and stone Him. They admitted because He claimed He was God. Christ used their own words against them. He questioned what was in the Law concerning them being gods. The problem is they did not believe Christ was from God even though they seen the miracles. They were in denial. They did not want to accept Him as being who He is. Christ made it clear if you can not believe in who I say I am believe at least in the works I do. Do we believe in the miracles of Christ. Do we believe in the works He did. They believe Moses but did not believe Christ. They were blinded by the truth. Christ then escapes the crowd because it is not His time to die for our sins. But has you can see has we head toward the cross that there is much turmoil happening among those that do not believe.
John 10:40-42 40 And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode. 41 And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. 42 And many believed on him there.
Christ then goes to those that will listen to Him and to those that believe the miracles. These people testified to what John the Baptist said was true concerning Him. And because of John's testimony they believed.
We are either like the first group or second group of people. Either believing not even though miracles are before us or believing because of someone's else's testimony. God still performs miracles today yet many do not believe it is from God. Either you do or you do not. But one thing I am sure God loves you despite your unbelief and that is why you still may be searching or two God loves you and you know it in your heart and believe Christ is the Messiah.
