Lesson Five: by turtle

John 1:37-51 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto
them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? 39 He saith unto them,
Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two which heard
John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have
found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art
Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. 43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee,
and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. 44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip findeth Nathanael,
and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46 And
Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.47Jesus saw Nathanael coming
to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! 48Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus
answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.49 Nathanael answered and saith unto
him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.; 50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee
under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.51And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter
ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

What happened in this story? Did you believe when you were first told of who Jesus was or did it take time? What convinced these men that Jesus
was the Messiah? What convinced you?

First John the Baptist proclaim that Jesus is the Messiah and some of his followers began to follow Jesus. They desire to know where He was
staying perhaps so when they left they could find him again. They called Jesus Rabbi which means teacher or master. They desire to follow him only
because of what John had said. It was enough to convince them that Jesus was the Messiah if nothing else a great teacher.

37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being
interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth
hour.

Jesus invited them to come along. Christ invites all of us to come to follow Him. We can not get to know Christ if we do not read or hear the word
of God. We have to follow Him where ever He leads us to.

As we begin to follow we desire others to know about Jesus. That was Andrew first thought to go and tell his brother Simon (Peter) So he went
and found him.

40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by
interpretation, A stone.

Peter heard through his brother and went to see who this Messiah was. He is the Christ. And Jesus immediately gave Peter a new name Cephas
(peter) meaning a stone. Peter one day would become a great leader; for Christ. It took Peter time to recognize that Jesus was the Messiah.

Matthew 16:15-18 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the
living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my
Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not
prevail against it.

Peter again is refer to as a rock and could not declare who Christ was except by the Holy Spirit. But His confession took time if you look it is
further in Christ ministry before Peter declares who Christ is. Sometimes it takes time for us to realize who Jesus is. So we can't give up hope on
others that are just now hearing who Christ is or have been learning who Christ is for many years. Sometimes it takes time for people to recognize
who Jesus is but they have a desire to learn about Him. Our job is just to share with them who Jesus is.

The next part of John Chapter one we see someone immediately recognizing the Messiah

43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the
son of Joseph.
46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under
the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon
the Son of man.

Phillip when Christ called him immediately believed that Jesus was the Messiah. He was so excited he went to find Nathanael. Nathanael reactions
was "can there any good thing come out of Nazarath". Philip response "come and see". Nathaniel was honest with his reaction. He did not take
Philips word for truth. So much like some of us. We search for answers to know whether the message of Christ is true. So we need to be patient
with those who search and challenge them to get to know Him for themselves. Just like Philip did.

When Nathanael meet Jesus he immediately believed. Because Christ told him where Philip found him. Nothing magical about it. He just simple
explained he seen him under a fig tree. That was enough to convince him. Christ promises he will see great things then this. He promised he would
see Heaven open. Nathanael did see Heaven open when Christ ascended into heaven. We to will see heaven open when Christ returns. What a
bless hope. Christ gave Nathanael hope of things to come. We to when we share Jesus must give people hope of eternity with Christ.

John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2  In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I
would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself;
that where I am, there ye may be also.

He gives us the hope of heaven. For he goes to prepare a place for each and everyone that will believe.

John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.

He promises us eternal life if we believe in Him in His Son Jesus. That is our hope that is what should helps us continue in our faith the promises to
come. We must wait and be patient.

Summary:

Simply some believe when they first here that gospel. Others it took time before they believed. We need to patient with those that are searching to
know Him and take time to answer and respond to their questions. And then when someone receives Christ we need to give them the hope of the
future with Christ.

For me it took time for me to believe, but I accept Christ as Lord at an early age. I am still as convinced if not more convinced that Jesus is my
Savior. You must continue in faith. We do go through periods where we backslide but God will not let go of you. All He requires is us to turn back
to Him. Our relationship with Jesus is always our choice. He is not a task master. He is patient and always there loving each and everyone of us that
will and do believe.
