Lesson 29:The Law Of The Old That Is Covered In the New Testament: Restitution Oath 2/20/2014

Exodus 22:7-15 KJV (7) If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double. (8) If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour's goods. (9) For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour. (10) If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it: (11) Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good. (12) And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof. (13) If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn. (14) And if a man borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good. (15) But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire.
The law of eye for a eye and tooth for a tooth comes more clear when it is applied within the legal sense, but to take out cold hearted revenge is something else outside the legal sense. When one breaks something one makes amends it has been code of the world since the beginning. People swear by the Lord they did not do something all the time, And other people swear a person did do it. Bible days were no different in fact because it was an issue these things were brought to court or counsel before the judges to decide if something was right or wrong. It also had become such a burden to Moses that his father in law had suggested that council of elders be established to decided right or wrong on issues. Thus the restitution oath was made or a promise of repayment for destruction of property or wounding/killing an animal. No one person could hear the whole matter, so it took more then one person to help with a decision.
Restitution would be made, a form of repayment if one found to be guilty of causing harm to a neighbors property. An oath would be taken before the Lord if one declare they were not guilty, much like us swearing on the Bible today in court. Yet still it was up to the judges to decide and in truth it was the only system they had in which to decide such matters.
Christ is our restitution for sin, our repayment for sin. He paid the price on Calvary tree. One payment to God one death for the price of the first man death. Man being guilty for sin causing death to the whole world. Thus Christ payment justified and rectified Adam’s mistake. Women were saved through child bearing because they would carry the promise line to the birth of Jesus. It was promise of coming to both man and women of how restitution for sin would take place.
Yet this oath of restitution has to do with livestock. One taking or destroying something that was not there’s. Heaven was our place to live until our ancestor Adam and Eve destroyed it by one mistake. One mistake that was normal for them, because they were not God only created in His image. Payment was made by God for us. Because we found to be guilty of sin, but not guilty for the reason we sinned. God loves us enough to allow our mistakes, but our laws govern us to protect us, just like God’s laws protect us spiritually.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your grace and mercy within the laws of both spiritual and legal. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
