| Lesson 30: The Law Of The Old That Is Covered In the New Testament: Error In An Oath 2/21/2014 by turtle Leviticus 5:1-19 KJV (1) And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity. (2) Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty. (3) Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall be defiled withal, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty. (4) Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these. (5) And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing: (6) And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin. (7) And if he be not able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his trespass, which he hath committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering. (8) And he shall bring them unto the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin offering first, and wring off his head from his neck, but shall not divide it asunder: (9) And he shall sprinkle of the blood of the sin offering upon the side of the altar; and the rest of the blood shall be wrung out at the bottom of the altar: it is a sin offering. (10) And he shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the manner: and the priest shall make an atonement for him for his sin which he hath sinned, and it shall be forgiven him. (11) But if he be not able to bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he that sinned shall bring for his offering the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any frankincense thereon: for it is a sin offering. (12) Then shall he bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it, even a memorial thereof, and burn it on the altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: it is a sin offering. (13) And the priest shall make an atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath sinned in one of these, and it shall be forgiven him: and the remnant shall be the priest's, as a meat offering. (14) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, (15) If a soul commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring for his trespass unto the LORD a ram without blemish out of the flocks, with thy estimation by shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering: (16) And he shall make amends for the harm that he hath done in the holy thing, and shall add the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and it shall be forgiven him. (17) And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD; though he wist it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity. (18) And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and wist it not, and it shall be forgiven him. (19) It is a trespass offering: he hath certainly trespassed against the LORD. A criminal act is to lie on a witness stand, or to make promise to not betray a friend, or to protect a person willing or unwilling because of oath to a person. Causing a person to sin or sinning willingly or unwillingly against a friend or court of law. A penalty would be applied and sacrifice given to the Lord. We do the same in our courts with the word contempt of court when a person purges themselves on the witness stand or refuses to give evidence. A fine would be paid. If you promise to tell the whole truth on a witness stand and willing do so, you are not in trouble, but if you found to lie for witness or to cover up the truth willingly or unwillingly because of forgetfulness, then you perjurer yourself on the witness stand. Even today when one takes an oath one is responsible for their words. There is a point in bring out these laws that even effect us today, and that is to show how the sacrificial law was not always about God other then in the stance of truth. If atheist have any ground to truly argue it would be when it comes to customs of the law and how it applied in the religious realm of the Jewish faith. In our country though God is suppose to be in charge of our country, we do not live in Jewish customs of old and pay God for our sins in legal sense, but our government. The tradition of fear of God over our country is gone from American thought process because neither do we use our legal process today has atonement for sin, but no more then a slap on the wrist with no thoughts of God. One local news person in my area did a story on going to jail for being drunk. Though she was not drunk she went through the physical process of the court system. Even down to appearing before the judge. Her comment was that it felt no more then being scold by a teacher in school. My thoughts on hearing this is that is the problem of today youth that are fined and incarcerated for a crime is they fear not the law of our land or God. They have no since of the value of authority. Jail has become a mockery of the judicial system instead of a punishment. People that were never corrected at home or school for misconduct have no since of the punishment. Crime rate goes up. In foreign countries they beat people with a cane, cut off hands for theft, and more. Their crime rate down compare to America. Yet America is still the best place to live. Yet the value of God over our country depreciates every time one does not get the concept of right and wrong or the value of correction of evil deeds. One day everyone will stand before throne God and give account of their sins, it easier to do it now and get forgiveness from God. The legal system judges and even corrects sin through due process and programs provide to criminals. In hopes that each person that regain their freedom will be a better person. When one stands before the judgment seat of Christ there is no turning back, only freedom for those that receive salvation in this life and not the next. God corrects and changes a person everyday they walk with Him to become more like Jesus, His precious Son, yet knowing we will never be equal to Him, but joint heirs with Him, because of His willingness to pay the price for our sins. When taking a oath one needs to bear truth and not to speak untruth. God is truth. God’s ways are truth. Yet the oath on a witness stand needs to be truthful and not a lie. Are you telling the whole truth everyday or forgetting pieces of it willingly or unwillingly. Consider who your final judge is and fear God and not man. Dear Heavenly Father help us to understand the legal system was part of religious system of your people and though today we do not practice religious correction within the legal system, you still correct us by your word to those that believe and follow you. Let us always speak in truth. In Jesus precious name, Amen. http://www.turtle30cshell.com _ |
