Why Miracles Happen?
Lesson Six: by turtle

Mark 4:35-41 KJV
(35)  And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us
pass over unto the other side.
(36)  And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was
in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
(37)  And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so
that it was now full.
(38)  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they
awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
(39)  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still.
And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
(40)  And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no
faith?
(41)  And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of
man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

Like I have stated we are only looking at the miracles in the book of Mark and
the significance of them. There are so many other good things to read in Mark
as well and I challenge you to read on them.

This particular story is interesting because it is recorded in two other gospels.
Each gospel portraits this story a bit different, illustrating different points to the
story. Each giving a personal account of the story. I am only dealing today with
Marks account.

The disciples are fearful the waves are high flooding the ship with water and for
some reason Jesus is sleeping through this with no worries about the storm. This
puzzles the disciples and I am sure it would us too. We must remember with
Jesus being God nothing is going to happen that is not suppose to happen. Yet
the disciples are still not clear who Jesus really is. In fact when Christ calms the
storm it puzzles them greatly. This is quite a normal reaction. Put yourself in the
shoes of how the disciples must of felt? Think about seeing these events how they
would impact you?

Simple fact when a storm comes in our life we are often scared. God likes to
bring about calm in our life. But we must look to the calmer to calm the storm.
Jesus is the solution in the middle of the storm. He not only can calm a physical
storm, but other types of storms in our life as well. There was a purpose for the
calm in the natural sense. I can ask God to calm a natural storm and God just
might want to take us through it.

Being in many storms in life I have learned that God can bring the peace I need
no matter the circumstances. Does that stop me from having fear like the
disciples, of course not. Fear is a human reaction. Fear is a reaction to the things
that are going on around us. Things we have no control over. Christ wants to
calm the storm. Calm our hearts, souls and minds in the mist of a storm. We got
to make a choice though we can let the waves of life over take us or we can look
to Jesus for assurance and help. Disciples had already learned that Jesus was the
answer, but they were still amazed that nature would obey Him. See God created
all things. If so He has power over them. They would of known this even thought
they did not yet understand Jesus was the Messiah.
