Matthew 6:12-15 KJV
(12)  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
(13)  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.
(14)  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly
Father will also forgive you:
(15)  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your
Father forgive your trespasses.

Dealing with one’s on inability to forgive  someone or ones self
can be a challenge. Rape victims go through several stages to
ever be able to forgive. Families that lose their family member
through violent crimes go through similar stages. The ability to
not take revenge is probably even more hard for a nation to
forgive the enemy of injuries due to war as will as loss of life. To
think one can go into a country, destroy and then make repairs
is going to fix everything is insane. It takes years and years to
heal another country from war and our own nation hands what
was our enemy weapons. It matters not if a war is justified
because of human rights, so one in a war torn country will be
angry at the nation that did it.

As Israelis mourn the lost of their Prime Minister Sharon one has
to ask will the fight for peace continue and the work towards
peace stand or will hate and unforgiveness of difference in
religion try to end this fight for peace. Learning to forgive and
the ability to forgive takes love on all sides. Peace is not easily
achieved through negotiations because it must come from heart.
Christians forgiving and learning to forgive as God did all people
takes practice. It is something not easily done.  The ability to
forgive sometimes takes counseling, but always takes an act of
examming oneself and seeing their own mistakes. Examming one’
s own mistakes helps to see the world and other’s mistakes are
worth forgiving. Yet it harder of violent crimes because the one
injured has nothing to compare it with as far as guilt. Our ability
to receive the effects in our world as the effects of past sin of
our nation is even harder.

God says forgive. Forgive or He will not forgive you. Strong
words and some hear and say I can not and will not ever
forgive. And some do go to their grave never able to forgive
completely. To forgive takes an act of God in some cases. If all
you do is seek revenge then all you have is revenge and no
forgiveness. Forgiveness must come from heart, must come
from the help of the Lord. Jesus praying to God said help us to
forgive those who sin against us as you forgive us. Israel was
coming through a time of grief of Roman take over as well as
Assyrian, Persia and Babylonia exile. Israel would need to learn
to forgive the same as God was doing for all the world that
would believe in Christ. Now if we write done all our sins and
compare it to what we ourselves have done, it makes it easier to
forgive others, for that list will grow shorter and shorter.
However acts of violence are often not comparable individual
mistakes. That is where act of God comes in. Act of God giving
the ability to forgive because you already took the time to
forgive others in areas of things you already done yourself. Now
that step one. Step two is to look at your unworthiness of
forgiveness and say all have sinned and fallen short of the glory
of God.

Do not worry about what you can not forgive right away, God is
able to in his forgiveness to supercede all that and make away
for you to forgive if you will only believe. God not going to
promise a mansion in heaven, without the ability to provide the
ability to forgive. It never means punishment does not come to a
sinner. It means sin is forgiven. See the most violent act of that
day and time was done to God’s Son, and yet we all nailed him
to the cross with our sin. So if God can forgive the violent act
done to His Son, then we ought to be able to forgive others that
same way. However we are human and it takes time to fully
grasp what our sins cause.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to forgive those who harm us,
despite our inability, remembering the violent act toward your
Son for our sins. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
