Genesis 2:8-17 KJV
(8)  And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and
there he put the man whom he had formed.
(9)  And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree
that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in
the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
(10)  And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from
thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
(11)  The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the
whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
(12)  And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx
stone.
(13)  And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that
compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
(14)  And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth
toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
(15)  And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden
of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
(16)  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree
of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
(17)  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not
eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Very few people understand the consequence of disobedience to
God. God declares or commands a rule and despite our human ability
to chose to do right, with a little temptation from someone else we do
wrong. It like in the school yard of the double dog dare rule. The rule
that says you got to do what is said despite what your parents have
told you to do, or the teacher. That one rule that if caught your in
deep trouble. If caught you will be punished for it.

Though sin is beckoning at the heart of even believers in God, there is
no way believer or non believer will go without correction if one sins.
The difference with school yard double dog dare rule and breaking
the rule of those in authority is quite simple. One has to deal with
feeling of being outcast from a group of people that wish to get you
into trouble, or be in a group that has power over those that are evil.
One has to first ask what authority was given to man. In chapter one
of Genesis, man was given authority over living creatures of the earth.
In chapter 3 of Genesis we find the serpent using temptation to steal
the authority God gave man. In the story of Christ own temptation we
find the devil trying to steal the authority of God’s Word from Him.

Temptation of Satan is only half our problem, the other half is
remember who child we are and the authority we have as a child of
God. Eve gave up her authority over Satan and Adam gave up his
authority over His wife and man has been trying to get it back ever
since. However in yesterday lesson we found Abraham still in
obedience to His wife. Still in obedience to his own human desire.

When one surrender their life to God, do not be surprised if the devil
does not come along and try to steal God’s authority, God has given
you out of your life. The authority to obey God. The authority given
through the power of prayer in the name of Jesus, by the name all
saints should use when asking request of God according to His will.
No one else has permission to use the name of Jesus. That authority
was given to His children that believe on Jesus. The authority to tread
on serpents is given to all people, but God’s children have the power
to resist temptation. Yet so many of God’s children are laying prey to
the devil because of a lack of knowledge.

To have authority one must obey the authority over you. A military
soldier learns what the different ranks of military really mean. They
learn to obey the rank over them. And has they obey they move up
the chain of command. That authority of that rank is given and you
then have people under you that must take your orders. Those who
cause you to disobey the orders of rank above you are nothing but
devils. However in every good military movie, one learns that
sometimes the authority above is wrong because they knew not the
whole situation in the lower ranks. However with God, He already
knows what going on in the lower ranks. Men are not God. Even with
their spy techniques and psychological training, they still lack that
human condition of surprise, I am not doing it that way today.

God place the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden for a
reason, and that reason was for a test, and God allowed the serpent
to test Adam and Eve, knowing He already had the plan of escape in
place. Man would have to learn obedience to God, before the
authority given to man would have any effect in man’s life. Are you on
the winning side of obedience to God or are you living with authority
of evil over your life. Choose God’s salvation plan through Christ
Jesus today.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the authority to choose who’s
side we are on. Let us stomp on the bullies in the school yard of life.
In Jesus precious name, Amen.
