2 Samuel 12:7-24 KJV
(7)  And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of
Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of
Saul;
(8)  And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy
bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been
too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
(9)  Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil
in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken
his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of
Ammon.
(10)  Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because
thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy
wife.
(11)  Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine
own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy
neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
(12)  For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and
before the sun.
(13)  And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And
Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not
die.
(14)  Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the
enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall
surely die.
(15)  And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that
Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
(16)  David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went
in, and lay all night upon the earth.
(17)  And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from
the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
(18)  And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the
servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said,
Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not
hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the
child is dead?
(19)  But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that
the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead?
And they said, He is dead.
(20)  Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself,
and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and
worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set
bread before him, and he did eat.
(21)  Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done?
thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child
was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.
(22)  And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said,
Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
(23)  But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again?
I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
(24)  And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay
with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD
loved him.

God’s wrath because of sin never seems justified in human eye. It seems to
be why God punish at all if forgiveness is mine to have. If it matters not my
sins are still forgiven. Does your wrath have to come upon my head then if you
so easily can forgive. Yet it is much more at stake then my own repentance.
David a king had sinned greatly in Israel by taking a poor man’s wife. He had
taken her because he desired her and cared not that she was married. He did
this sin in secret, but no doubt the servants of David knew. This evil had
caused a stench to the witness of God in Israel. However David was forgiven,
when he repented, yet it did not remove the wrath of God from punishing
David.

David’s punishment seems harsh but it is also a metaphor in a since. See
when God’s people sin, it kills the innocent, it causes sin to be seen to those
that rebel against God’s family unit as well as before the heathens. The
heathen that might of otherwise been saved if our sin did not cause them to
sin greater with the attitude what you did is forgiven so what I do will be
forgiven also. Absalom was the son that would defile his own father’s house
before Israel taking his father’s concubines to bed before Israel sight. Caring
not these women were of his father’s house. Absalom had declared war
against Israel as well as his father’s house. Enough of Israel was willing to
follow in this take over of the kingdom of Israel.

David house was defiled as was Bathesheba’s marriage. Yet David would
also lose his son of Bathesheba when he became ill. A innocent lamb, not
healed but allowed to die because of David’s sin. So it is when we sin,
innocent people around us fail to have faith in God because of our failures in
our walk with God. Yet David hope this sin would not cause punishment on his
son, he wept and mourned and pleaded with God with no prevail. His son
died. When he learns of the news he gets up and worships God.

Our sin effects others and that is why God’s wrath must come down on our
life. We might be saved by the faith, but the wrath of God must come because
of deeds slaughter the innocent that might come to saving power of God
otherwise. Our choice to do our own thing or follow in the footsteps of Christ
can be a hard choice at times. Our own desires our own rebellion nature
wanting control to satisfy our own desire. Not caring how our own actions are
affecting others around us. David was a beloved king of his generation for this
act by Absalom would be a defiling moment to Israel. A witness of the word of
God, of what would happen if they continued in sin, another would come and
take their wives and their homes. That they needed to live in holiness before
God and their fellow mankind. They would loose the nation around them
because of their evil acts. Whoa to America who sin is widely known to the
world, from television, to murders in the street, to un justification of murder of
the unborn, to lewd behavior and lack of respect for our fellowman. Yet this
generation coming up do not understand what the big deal is because of our
freedom. Our freedom a gift from God, but abused to do evil because a curse
on humanity. To those that believe in Jesus will be saved, but the wrath of
God will still come, not because of a lack of repentance, because God can not
take away this punishment from the people on earth, only for eternity. Christ
came to die for our sins, to pay the price, but that price tag was concerning
spiritual kingdom.

Dear Heavenly Father may your will be done in the hearts of man, as will in
our daily lives. Sin hurts, but better here on earth then for eternity in lake of
fire that burns forever and ever. Help us to fully understand this. In Jesus
precious name, Amen.
