21 Days of God's Gift of Giving
by turtle30c
Luke 1:26-38 KJV (26) And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, (27) To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. (28) And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. (29) And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. (30) And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. (31) And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. (32) He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: (33) And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (34) Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? (35) And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. (36) And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. (37) For with God nothing shall be impossible. (38) And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Unless you were conceived in a science lab and raised in a science lab, coming straight from one of those science fiction movies of humans being produced in a lab, you were formed in your mother’s womb. God gives all living a mother, a place to grow and form in safe human incubator, called a womb. There human life grows for hopefully nine full months and then is delivered into everyday world of mankind. However until that time, that baby is growing in an environment God specially uniquely designed for a baby to grow in. God choice for carrying as well as raising His Son was special. He favored Mary. Mary a woman of marrying age and engaged to a man named Joseph, yet she was still a virgin, a woman who had not had sex yet of any kind. She was pure and God desired her to give birth to His Son.
Mary, highly favored probably because of her faith, for her question of how she would become pregnant was first thing she inquired. I wonder if at this point she wonder if she was about to be raped. Imagine being approached by angel, a heavenly being and all the stories of angels that have perhaps circulated in her Roman Jewish world. Perhaps even hearing some of the stories and legends of Roman gods and goddess having sex with people . We like to think Mary was complete innocent and naïve, but she was a grown woman by Jewish standards at least. She is thought to be around age sixteen. Jew was adult at thirteen. Mary lived in Galilee, an area both Gentile and Jewish. No doubt she might of known some people different then her at least in the market place, even if she could not of associated with them in general. Mary ask how is this going to happen, I am virgin. Angel goes on to tell her the Holy Spirit would come upon her and over shadow her. In other words she would conceive by the promise of the Lord as prophesied without sex. It would be a work of the Holy Ghost. Angel had told Mary not to fear. Not to be scared, but I do not doubt when told she would be pregnant caught her off guard by her response to the angel.
God chooses for every human life a way into the world. He created a process called conception. Each woman specially designed to carry a child, even when she unable to carry one. Woman is a unique creation. She is a special in the eyes of God. Yet Mary seems to have more favor then any other during her time, to carry the promise Son of God, Emmanuel, meaning God with us. Christ conception unique to signify the promise of a Savior. God gift to all of us is our mothers. We can not deny this gift. Not all mothers are loving, kind and good. But God gave us each a place to grow until the day of our delivery. Then we become part of the universal world of life. And hopefully each person has a good mother and if not they will be given to one that will be good to them. Thank God for the gift of a place to grow as well as to be raised by.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for giving us a mother, demonstrating through Mary the uniqueness of selecting of a good woman for carrying a child. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
