Luke 1:15-17 KJV
(15)  For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink
neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy
Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
(16)  And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord
their God.
(17)  And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias,
to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the
disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people
prepared for the Lord.

Every prophet’s calling is without repentance. Each person called
for a purpose. One might think of prophets and ministers calling
be the only unique calling by God. But God called crafters in the
building and crafting work of the temple. God calling is for each
person in the world. Does God call people to do evil the answer
is no. Does God use evil people to complete a task that needs
doing I believe the answer is yes. However an evil act is evil act
and not in accordance to the will of God but the permission of
God, which is a different subject from today’s lesson.

The gifts of talent or ability is a gift of God no matter if it is to
preach, do a handicraft, to play music, or anything one might use
for godly purpose, to build up and not tear down society
spiritually, physically and mentally. It is about a good work for
God. To preach to minister is a good work for God if it is to build
or tear down evil and deception.

John the Baptist was appoint before birth for a purpose to preach
in the wilderness, to make straight the way of the Lord. To make
a clear path to God, one straight path of understanding to those
seeking God. This path not designed by John but designed by
God. Every minister has a responsibility to make a straight path
to God. Not to deviate from that plan. God gives purpose and
that what today’s lesson is about God giving man purpose.

God from the beginning gave man purpose to take care of earth
and each other. Each of us have responsibility to do this. It does
not mean our purpose is done the same way as another.  Yet the
calling came first in Genesis 1, 2, and 4. That is responsibility of
everyone. Yet calling for a purpose to serve God is also our
responsibility. It is a compelling force from God to do this work of
service for God. Some preach, some prophesy, some teach,
some sing, some testify, some speak in other languages, some
do different types of ministry like clowning, puppetry or acting.
The purpose is to share the works of God with others in a way
that will enable others to hear the gospel message. A preachers
job is to preach, even if he uses other talents to do that
preaching. John was a no nonsense preacher, his task to make
sure the people knew that kingdom of God was at hand and who
the Messiah was. John the Baptist was called to a special diet
and life style, not all are able to live a strict life style like John the
Baptist. Yet did John ever have another choice. The day John
sent His disciples out to inquire of Jesus if he was the Messiah or
was there one yet to come. It was John decision day. God had
testify at the banks of Jordan of who Jesus was. Yet it clear John
had not made up in his own heart and mind if Jesus was the
Messiah. One has to remember John declared who Jesus was,
but did not follow after. He however did encourage his disciples to
do so. Even devils are required to point to heaven gate and to
who Jesus is. Yet John  was called from birth for a  purpose. Yet
His decision of faith was still his.

Just because you are called does not mean you follow Jesus.
Many say Lord, Lord and yet will not enter the kingdom of
heaven. How are you serving God with faith. Is the purpose of
serving other is it in submission to God or to glorify yourself? God
called all people to be humanitarians and to point to God. Do not
be surprised if the devil is in your pulpit, be more upset if he is not
in submission to God. God’s gift of purpose is irrevocable.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for giving us a purpose to do
your will in our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
