The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
Lesson Eighteen: by turtle30c

Matthew 7:28-29 KJV
(28)  And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
(29)  For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Last week lesson finished up the Sermon on the Mount. However the final conclusion was the crowd was amazed at this doctrine,
though they knew not his authority in which he taught and not as a scribe(teacher of the law). Jesus when He came healed and
taught with authority not like any other prophet or leader through out Israel history. Christ authority came because He is God and is
the Son of God.  The word of God in the flesh is Jesus. The authority God’s word has is power.

John 1:1-3 KJV
(1)  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(2)  The same was in the beginning with God.
(3)  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 1:14 KJV
(14)  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
Father,) full of grace and truth.

Authority of Christ was His because of who Jesus was. All things were created by Him. Jesus healed throughout his ministry and I
can not think of one time, he said you can not be healed. Jesus even raised the dead and calmed the sea. I had a person ask why
can you not raise the dead? Why when you pray do you not see all healed? If you are a disciples of Christ do you not have that
same authority. No the authority is not mine to use. It is God authority to use through the believer. Simeon in Acts 8 thought he
could buy the power of the Holy Spirit, and he was quickly told it not buyable and that is was blaspheme to think he could.  Many
devils think you owe them money if a miracle happens, this is not so.

Many miracles in the Old Testament besides those done before Pharaoh and in the wilderness. Elijah performed miracles. However
the miracles done by these prophets were not done by their authority. Authority came from God. These men had to pray and seek
God in order for miracles to happen. When a believer prays in Jesus name, it must be done under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus being God Word authority came from the Spirit of God, but He was God so the authority was His.

The authority is given to God‘s children in John and in Matthew

.John 16:23 KJV
(23)  And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he
will give it you.

Matthew 21:21-22 KJV
(21)  Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is
done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
(22)  And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Luke 10:17 KJV
(17)  And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Luke 9:1 KJV
(1)  Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

Yet when disciples brought a demon possessed boy to Jesus, they asked why could they not cast the demons out.

Matthew 17:18-21 KJV
(18)  And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
(19)  Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
(20)  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye
shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
(21)  Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Just because one says in Jesus name, it also has to come at times with fasting. Do we seek God or do we seek the power. Do we
seek the life giver, or do we seek our own needs. In Matthew 8 we see Christ authority to heal and to cast out demons. Take time
to read this chapter today and think about Christ authority. Elijah told the Naaman to dunk himself in the river Jordan in II Kings 5,
but in the previous chapter we see him praying to God for the life of the Shunammite women’s son.

2 Kings 4:32-35 KJV
(32)  And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
(33)  He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the LORD.
(34)  And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon
his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
(35)  Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed
seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

The difference is God direction and man’s desire. Naaman came afar to inquire of the Lord for healing. God honor it so the word
of God would spread.

2 Kings 5:15-16 KJV
(15)  And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I
know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
(16)  But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

Now with these scriptures in mind above read Matthew 8.

Matthew 8:1-17 KJV
(1)  When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
(2)  And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
(3)  And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
(4)  And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses
commanded, for a testimony unto them.
(5)  And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
(6)  And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
(7)  And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
(8)  The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only,
and my servant shall be healed.
(9)  For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and
he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
(10)  When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no,
not in Israel.
(11)  And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in
the kingdom of heaven.
(12)  But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
(13)  And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed
in the selfsame hour.
(14)  And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.
(15)  And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
(16)  When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his
word, and healed all that were sick:
(17)  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our
sicknesses.

Last verse is reference to Isaiah 53. Christ bore our sin and also our illnesses.

Isaiah 53:3-5 KJV
(3)  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he
was despised, and we esteemed him not.
(4)  Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
(5)  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and
with his stripes we are healed.

Christ bore our pain, sorrow and health problems all on the cross. Healing comes with death in some cases and also with faith in
others. Do we take time to pray, do we take time to fast for healing? Maybe not. Would we see more miracles if we did, the word
says so. I believe the word, how come though even if we believe the word we do not always do what we know to do? I had a
friend to die the other day. Not usual event as you get older, however I had to type this today and I have to ponder did I do all I
could in my prayer life. I have had to weigh this several times in my life. The answer is still the same God’s will must be
accomplished for healing and miracles whether fasting or not fasting. The reason being Naaman healed for the glory of God among
a people that need to see the work of God. When we pray do we want to take credit for something that is not ours to take credit
for. Elijah servant tried to take credit for Elijah it was not his to take and he landed up with leprosy. Do we do this when we prayer
and that why bad things happen? I believe death is sometimes mercy of God especially when God choose not to give earthly
healing, we know God will give eternal healing for those that believe.
