The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
|
Lesson Nine: by turtle
It is great to live in the good old USA Sometimes when we look at the old laws of the Old Testament, it is important to understand the laws of the time. We however do not punish by Old Testament law anymore. However how does one decide what is right by today’s laws and not to exercise Biblical law. Some of what Christ teaches though it be Old Testament taught still applies but not in the physical sense. Let us examine the passage.
Matthew 5:27-33 KJV (27) Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: (28) But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. (29) And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (30) And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (31) It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: (32) But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. (33) Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
Code of conduct was to get rid of the thing that was causing you to sin or get rid of the sinner. Divorce law only caused more sin. It is the sin that multiplies. If you get rid of spouse based on fornication, and based on adultery. You are encouraging sin if they choose to remarry or have a lover. However you can not get rid of the person by killing them either. Sometimes a time of separation. Sometimes a divorce. Sexual immorality is never okay. Old or New Testament. However men married many wives in the Bible, More then one wife was never God’s plan. Neither is it God’s plan to literally cut off a body part. Without a hand one is dismembered not to a total handicap, but at least a partial. Let us look at Old Testament law. Let us begin with Noah Ark.
Noah and His family were the only one’s saved in the flood. Yet Noah was a just man in the eyes of Lord. A fair man a fair judge was Noah. In other words Noah because he was human did sin, but he was consider a fair man.
Genesis 6:8-9 KJV (8) But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. (9) These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
God cut off all the people in the world except for eight.
2 Peter 2:5 KJV (5) And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
Then God promised not to destroy the whole earth by water again. He turn away from doing it again.
Genesis 8:21-22 KJV (21) And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. (22) While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Genesis 9:8-19 KJV (8) And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, (9) And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; (10) And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. (11) And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. (12) And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: (13) I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. (14) And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: (15) And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. (16) And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. (17) And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth. (18) And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. (19) These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.
Well what does this have to do with cutting people out of one life or cutting off arms and legs. It has a lot to do with it. God is asking us to get rid of the things that cause us to sin. For example if porn is causing you to sin get rid of the porn. If gambling is causing you to loose your family because you have no money then it is sin. However do you need to literally cut off the hand that caused you to buy that lottery ticket or that magazine. Of course not. Get rid of the problem and not the actual hand. God often uses extreme to express simple things.
God killed all the people but eight, does that not mean that those eight were perfect. Of course not. Let us look again.
Genesis 6:5 KJV (5) And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
The continual thought of sin causes more sin. Man’s heart was not right and Noah was the only one that found God’s grace, because he was a man of faith. Noah after the flood got drunk and His youngest son sinned against him. Did Noah cut off his son because of sin. Of course not. He did however curse his grandson.
Genesis 9:22-27 KJV (22) And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. (23) And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. (24) And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. (25) And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. (26) And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. (27) God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
God has a way of showing us that we still make mistakes and though we sin He still loves us. However if there is a thief cutting off his hands seems like a simple punishment to solve the problem. However it also does not allow a man to work, so why is Jesus teaching about man’s law. Man law is temporary, God’s law is everlasting. The ten commandments and other laws were laws God put in place to keep order in a land.
Example is eye for eye and tooth for a tooth
Exodus 21:23-26 KJV (23) And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, (24) Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, (25) Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. (26) And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.
Caused harm to a servant then they had to be let go and set free. However if a man stole what happened.
Exodus 22:1-3 KJV (1) If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. (2) If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him. (3) If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
Now what occurred here was not a cutting off of the hand. Who’s law was cutting off of the hand. It was not Israel law. It was Roman Law that Jesus was using for that was the law He was under. Christ submitted to Roman Law. He had to submit to Roman and Religious law or He would Never of died on the cross. God shows the harshness of man so we can see the law of love of God. God was willing to send His Son to walk in our shoes as a human being. He showed His love by allowing His Son to face the same punishment we face at the hand of man. Paul is example of facing punishment of the hand of man. He was stone and beaten for preaching the gospel.
Remember when Jesus speaks He speaks of not just the law of Jews but the law of the Roman Law. If one preaches or teaches we should speak of both laws. God’s law of love and forgiveness as well has man’s law not to forgive. Now finish reading these and you be glad you live in America and if you live some where else consider are you happy about your laws. Laws are made to protect you, not to cause you harm.
Matthew 5:34-39 KJV (34) But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: (35) Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. (36) Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. (37) But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. (38) Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: (39) But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Does this mean you are to take abuse. Does it mean that I am suppose to let someone just hit me. Well not really. Our laws are to protect us. However we are suppose to love people despite what they do to us. However sometimes it is hard to love. God loves us despite what we do, however his judgment is quick to those who receive not his plan of salvation or His law of love. Jesus shows submission to the law of the land. Our laws in the USA was created to protect us based on Old Testament Jewish laws. They want to remove Bible out of our land, I think not, to many of us Christians if we will voice the truth will get people to realize the law of God are good even to those who do not believe. God knows what is best for us.
Titus 3:1 KJV (1) Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
However at the same time we are to submit first to God’s law. And God’s law out trumps all laws. God’s law is one law worth fighting for. And even Christians and none Christians a like will submit to it.
Psalms 66:1-8 KJV (1) To the chief Musician, A Song or Psalm. Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: (2) Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious. (3) Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee. (4) All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah. (5) Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men. (6) He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him. (7) He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah. (8) O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
