The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
|
Lesson Two: by turtle
God is clear on prophecy the devil is not. No better example of this is Matthew 2. What purpose does astrology really have in the since of religion. In truth it was God’s way of speaking to a group of people that worshipped not Him. God communicating to people of who He is. The wise men were astrologers. They study the stars for signs of events to come as well as for weather and changing of seasons. One thing the wise men new was the coming of the Messiah. God message was for all people. They understood a great king would be born, however they understood not that He was the Son Of God. They followed the star like a guiding light in search of the new king. When the star stopped they stopped and even made inquiries.
Let us first look at what God said about the Gentiles.
Isaiah 11:10-12 KJV (10) And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. (11) And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. (12) And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
These verse is not just talking the time of Christ birth but we also see this prophecy being fulfilled in Acts 2.
Acts 2:8-11 KJV (8) And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? (9) Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, (10) Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, (11) Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
However where ever is a star or great light mentioned concerning that all would see.
Isaiah 60:1-6 KJV (1) Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. (2) For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. (3) And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. (4) Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. (5) Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. (6) The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.
Now with these Old Testament passages in mind let us look at Matthew 2.
Matthew 2:1-4 KJV (1) Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. (3) When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. (4) And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
Well if these people had continued with the worship of God and not stars and idols they would of known. After all did not God revealed to Israel when the coming of the Lord would be. Hold on for a second were these pagans Abraham’s seed. After all Abraham had more wives after Isaac was born.
Genesis 25:1-6 KJV (1) Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. (2) And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. (3) And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. (4) And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah. (5) And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac. (6) But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.
No doubt Abraham people were among the heathen of the land. No doubt Abraham kin. Yet it was the wise men their religious leaders that came from the east in search of the king of the Jews.
Matthew 2:5-9 KJV (5) And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, (6) And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. (7) Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. (8) And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. (9) When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
Yes there is prophecy of where the child would be born. Prophecy is scattered through out Old Testament.
Micah 5:2 KJV (2) But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Isaiah 9:6-8 KJV (6) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (7) Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. (8) The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
Is the prophecy a little vague for some. I think so. If you do not know your Bible you might be saying what. The city of David was called Bethlehem.
1 Samuel 16:1 KJV (1) And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
Isaiah 11:1-12 KJV (1) And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: (2) And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; (3) And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: (4) But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. (5) And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. (6) The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. (7) And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. (8) And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. (9) They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. (10) And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
The simple fact is that it was prophecied where Jesus would be born. It was specific enough that without godly men to tell the king as well as the wise men the prophecy could not be fulfilled. Without the star in the east the wise men would not of followed. They would not of search for a great light. God talks to all of us in our own language, in way we will understand if we will listen. I got a new update for my website through the system I use. I do not know php. It is totally Greek to me. It not my language. However the Bible speaks my language as well as the TV and my husband and sometimes my family.
The simple fact is what would get the attention of leaders who traveled and the king of the nation the child would be born in would have to come from God. The wise men came and brought gifts from afar.
Isaiah 60:6 KJV (6) The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.
Matthew 2:10-11 KJV (10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. (11) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
The next prophecy we are going to be looking at is heart wrenching. God would send the wise men another way. God would tell Joseph in a dream to go to Egypt. The King of Israel would be angry and kill all the baby boys of age birth to two years old.
Matthew 2:12-21 KJV (12) And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. (13) And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. (14) When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: (15) And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. (16) Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men. (17) Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, (18) In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not. (19) But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, (20) Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life. (21) And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
Hosea 11:1 KJV (1) When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
To me Hosea seems vague, yet Christ represents both Israel as well as God. Meaning He travel the same route as the people, yet He was perfect. Going to Egypt and traveling the same route as Israel in a since. Abraham traveled to Egypt during a famine and so did His grandson Jacob. Christ would make this same direction and would then come forth and live in Galilee. God would literally call Joseph, Mary and Jesus back to Israel after the king died.
Jeremiah 31:15-17 KJV (15) Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not. (16) Thus saith the LORD; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. (17) And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
The first time Israel heard the weeping of Rachel children was when Pharaoh killed the Hebrew baby boys in Egypt in Exodus. Moses was born during this time period. The next weeping would come when Jesus was born. Though Israel did weep for her children when sin was rampant in the land.
Now to finish up this chapter we have to look at the very last verse. Jesus would be called a Nazarene. This was prophecy. All this passage of Jesus’ birth was prophesy.
Matthew 2:20-23 KJV (20) Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life. (21) And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. (22) But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: (23) And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
Judges 13:5 KJV (5) For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
Something interesting to note is Jesus received the prophetic calls. Nazareth is modern day Palestine.
Two things to remember God people know God’s prophecy will be fulfilled and those who worship other gods as well as the stars look at history past to prophecy future events. God prophecy needs no passed to prove a future, yet the pass prophecy are hope of the future of that time. Christ second coming is in a cloud, not coming in the same fashion as a prophet birth, but in the same way He left.
Acts 1:10-11 KJV (10) And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; (11) Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
We will not have to travel to see Jesus for every eye will behold Him when He returns.
Revelation 1:7 KJV (7) Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
