The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
|
Lesson Forty-one: by Christina Farris
One of the hardest questions ever asked is who is Jesus? That sounds simple enough the Bible tells us Jesus. Jesus meaning the name of our Lord.
Matthew 1:21-25 KJV (21) And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (22) Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, (23) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (24) Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: (25) And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Luke 1:31-35 KJV (31) And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. (32) He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: (33) And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (34) Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? (35) And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
The Son of the Highest and Lord God means Messiah.
Daniel 9:25-26 KJV (25) Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. (26) And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Messiah the prince. Messiah meaning anointed. Messiah Prince denoted rank or offspring of King David. David meaning an anointed king. Isaiah calls Jesus by many names.
Isaiah 9:6-7 KJV (6) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (7) Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
God declares Christ as a prince, and His Son, yet never King. Yet man would call him king.
Matthew 21:5 KJV (5) Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
Matthew 27:11 KJV (11) And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
Though God gives title to Jesus as His Son, He is also God. What makes him prince is His humanity. Meaning in the flesh he is a man, yet He is God because His Spirit is the Holy Spirit. His body being totally like ours making our bodies also like His meaning, corruptible, a simple man. God came in our likeness, His body in our likeness was never God, but His Spirit which was incorruptible was God. When God talks about his children being kings and queens he is talking about them ruling in this world and we will rule as princes, and princess in the kingdom of God in heaven. However our role maybe that we are conceived as queens and kings, but we are never the head king. In other words never God. Satan one mistake when he fell was making himself equal to God. We make a choice recognize Christ position as well as His Father position. Christ could not be God in the human corruptible flesh, but was by His Spirit God. In other words. His flesh held His Spirit the temple of God. We become the temple of God but we never become God. We house the Holy Spirit but we commune with the risen Lord, who was risen incorruptible. His body made in the image of the kingdom of God indestructible. We to will have a house that can not be destroyed, but our position is made clear we are joint heirs with Jesus but never God. In fact we call God the Father of Jesus Father.
Galatians 4:1-7 KJV (1) Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; (2) But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. (3) Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: (4) But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, (5) To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (6) And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (7) Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Our place to serve God yet with the title of son and daughters of God. Meaning we are more then people who serve God. It is only because of God sending His Son Spirit into our hearts that we are adopted and call God Father. We can not call God Father without His Spirit. Back in Isaiah Christ is called Everlasting Father, and it is because of His Spirit. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are equal, however we are not for without the power of God in us we are just human in the flesh, yet it is by Christ spirit we raise up, we can not raise ourselves.
Yes this is going somewhere. In Matthew 16:13 Jesus ask who man says he was. In other words, who does the world believe that I am. World meaning those that are not His disciples.
Matthew 16:13-14 KJV (13) When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? (14) And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
There many people that accept Jesus as being a prophet, preacher of righteousness, but never accept Him as the Christ. Jesus ask Peter who do you say I am?
Matthew 16:15-17 KJV (15) He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? (16) And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. (17) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Peter sees Jesus in all his humanity but chosen by God. Christ meaning anointed or Messiah. Not until after His death do they fully understand Him being Lord Jehovah. For Christ would raise himself from the dead through the power of His Spirit into incorruptible flesh. His body being the temple of the Holy Spirit. Would say destroy the temple and I will raise it in three days. People all around would think he was speaking of the temple in Jerusalem. No one can construct a temple in three days, but God can raise the body of Christ in three days. Peter is seeing Christ in His humanity and chosen of God.
Matthew 16:17-21 KJV (17) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. (18) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (19) And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (20) Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. (21) From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
What does it mean to have the keys to the kingdom.
Isaiah 22:20-25 KJV (20) And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: (21) And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. (22) And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. (23) And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house. (24) And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons. (25) In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD hath spoken it. Eliakim means God of raising. However Eliakim was also a servant at the time of Hezekiah. Meaning he was servant in the kings house. However Jesus is said to be Eliakim. One who had the key to the kingdom of heaven. Eliakim had the keys to the palace he served in. Jesus the Son of God had the keys to kingdom of God and gave them to Peter. Keys were often hung on a belt or put on as emblem on a shirt to note rank in the palace. The key also was what opened the door in the palace. Peter is said to have the keys to the pearly gates in many jokes, but it was truth. Keys often had a place on a wall to be hung on making it easy to find. Jesus was the key to the kingdom. Jesus represents truth.
Ephesians 6:14 KJV (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Isaiah 11:1-5 KJV (1) And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: (2) And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; (3) And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: (4) But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. (5) And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
Jesus only hands Peter the keys to the kingdom of God only to rebuke Peter as being the son of Satan meaning a son of the world.
Matthew 16:22-28 KJV (22) Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. (23) But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. (24) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (25) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. (26) For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (27) For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. (28) Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Peter did not want Christ to have to die. He did not want these things to be. Yet Christ came to die for the sins of the whole world. When we take up our cross to follow Jesus we take on the sins of the world. Or take on war against evil. In that process man sometimes has to die, but never at their own hand, but at the hand of the enemy. Jesus bore his cross willingly. We too must bare our burdens willingly. Take up the task God has for us. This is not taking up our sins, those were paid for by the cross of Jesus, but taking of the burden of God to serve Him and His kingdom for the His glory and honor. To serve in the capacity God desires us too. God giving the ability and not man. Those that do not taste death is those saved by the grace of God. Are you willing to serve God upon belief in His son? Or is Christ death not worth anything to you. Christ paid the price for our sins. The choice is yours, receive Christ work on the cross today.
